Depends which bit of Poland- Warsaw is a bit pricier but have had exceptionally cheap breaks in Krakow and Torun. Taxi across town on a Saturday night in Krakow was less than >£3 and we had a 4 course near Michelin quality meal for 2 for under £30.

All attractions are fairly cheap to get in, usually under £10. Dinner usually under £20 for 2. The only big expense was a day trip to Auschwitz was £100 plus.

Where about?

KennDodd · 31/08/2019 23:13

Poland isn't as cheap as it was because of the fall in the value of the £. Auschwitz is free to get into, it's only the educator tours you have to pay for if you want one.

Krakow

We are only there for two days so won't be going to auschwitz and probably will just explore the town etc

i spend approx 100 for 2 days in krakow last year and we ate a lot

drowningincustard · 01/09/2019 11:11

how long is a piece of string? surely it depends on what you like to do and expect to do? all the obvious tourist things and eating in top restaurants and spending the night drinking in the main square then take as much as you would do for a uk touristy town like York/Oxford etc. If you want to do it on a budget then with a bit of research it will also be doable because you can look up what attractions are free/low cost and can hunt out restaurants/bars away from the main drags that cater to locals/students and it can be a bargain - but will require a bit of effort on map reading/research

Auschwicz is free if you book in advance on official website. We didn't go when visiting Krakow because I failed to do this and I didn't want to spend £100 on a private tour - didn't seem right. But you will need to book perhaps months in advance for the official tour (which includes a guide in language of your choice. We found Krakow v cheap to eat especially if you eat polish food.

HoneywithLemon · 01/09/2019 11:17

I recommend the Schindler Museum, the Galician Jewish museum and gallery, and the museum under the Cloth Hall which tells the story of Krakow. All cheap as chips. Wawel Castle also beautiful but we only visited the grounds.

mystupidmistake · 01/09/2019 11:18

Not much at all! It’s super cheap. Less than £309.

mystupidmistake · 01/09/2019 11:19

Very precise figure there from me.

AnalUnicorn · 01/09/2019 12:32

In Krakow we found it was around £50 for a 2 course meal for 2 with a bottle of wine and a couple of beers. This was in reasonably upmarket sorts of places. I’m sure you could easily find cheaper. Beers in the main square are around £3 each.

fandabbyfannyflutters · 01/09/2019 22:06

@mystupidmistake would £308 suffice ? 😂

Make an effort to go to the salt mine 🤯🤯🤯

mystupidmistake · 02/09/2019 22:15
Wink

Agree you must visit the salt mines. They’re mind blowing,

Go to Spaghetti on the square for pizza, it’s fantastic.

I want to go back RIGHT NOW!!!!

Nicknacky · 02/09/2019 22:19

I was in Spaghetti two weeks ago, service veerrrrrry slow though!

Can thoroughly recommend dinner at The Royal Hotel. 4 of us, all ate steaks, two deserts, two wines and two litres of beer plus 6 vodka shots.....£75.

I can also recommend Sioux on the main square.

Namechangenecessity · 02/09/2019 22:27

I second @HoneywithLemon recommendations. We didn’t get to see Schindlers factory ( best to book in advance), the ghetto or the Salt Mines, we went in the cloth hall but I forgot all about the museum underneath . We ‘did’ Auschwitz ( a private taxi tour with a very odd but knowledgable man, we were able to skip the queues and he had obviously done it many times). The Galician Jewish museum was fascinating and only a couple of pounds to get in. Likewise the Remuh Synagogue just across the square, the bigger synagogue was closed when we went as a public holiday. Wawel Castle and the Cathedral were amazing. And St Mary’s Basilica in the main square , again only a couple of pounds ( I have an NUS card and got discounts at most places) , was simply glorious, I prayed there and lit candles.

We ate and drank , didn’t stint at all, and didn’t spend that much. If you go off the main square it’s even cheaper.

Fabulous place, I can’t wait to go back, probably my favourite holiday to date.

Enjoy!

Get the right bank card (Starling, or a Halifax Clarity or Santander Zero credit card) and you'll never need to worry about changing money prior to holidays again and it's more secure and you get a better exchange rate.

I just put a load of money to cover what I expect to spend plus a contingency in my Starling account and spend or withdraw cash as normal and then use the Santander card as a back up or for things like hire car or hotel deposits.
