Home bowel cancer test

Can anyone give recommendations for the best home bowel cancer test? My husband isn’t old enough (or am I) for the nhs test and he wishes to be screened - there just seem to be so many options out there that we can pay for, so some recommendations would be really helpful!

Can you not ask to pay for a nhs one
I failed the 60 year old one
Had to do another one
Failed that
Had to do prep, had full colonoscopy, everything was fine
I have ibs but never any bleeding
All the same was reassuring that I didn’t have as much as a polyps

Has your gp declined your request?

We get the test sent every two years but I’ve yet to do another one.

Don’t bother with anything from the internet, you’ve no idea if or how the samples are tested. Why not arrange a private test locally through BUPA or similar? Alternatively, if he has genuine symptoms a GP should be able to advise or refer your husband for tests.

if he has symptoms and/or family history of bowel cancer he should go to his gp.
home tests can only be very limited and give false reassurance or send you into unjustified panic.

He’s a doctor refusenik Hmm I think I’m basically going to have to manhandle him there. 50 years old, no family history, suffers from hypochondria but has actual physical problems in that area (which I think is ibs)

Sometimes if you have piles the home test can give a false reading

It will be a few years before I am sent a home screening but my Dad has had a few already

Please do as orangeshoebox suggested and tell him to go to the GP. My parents both were sent and they did the NHS home testing kit - both were fine. My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer a short time later. Whilst he came through a very very long haul and treatments that wrecked him, he's now doing alright but the GP sent him for further investigations, the home test didn't.
