Hello, has anyone on here had a Gastric Band Operation? I’m at an all time low 😢I was at my Doctors this morning who has referred me on to see a Barriatric Surgeon I’ve been told the whole process could take 18-24 months. After talking to my husband we are considering going private which will cost £7,500 in total. My life is so affected by my weight I have back and knee problems which affect me severely I’m in a lot of pain. I just want my life back and to start living it and enjoying it again. My BMI is 35.9 I’m 5ft 5 inches and 15St 6Ibs.

or if going preivately for anything, get a sleeve, but I still recommend the dietician process for 6 months first as it really help teach and prepare in too many ways to list. You could find it very mentally hard going private straight away without the supportive lead up to it

Genuinely thought you were going to say you were 20 stone +

Have you tried recovery for food addiction?

You would meet many/all like you: obsessed with food morning/noon/night, completely unable to stop despite unbelievable despair.

Do try it before you do something as drastic as surgery - which doesn't necessarily work : as a pp said, it doesn't deal with the mental torture.

Overeaters Anonymous. For all eating disorders.

Don’t have a band! They’re hardly done on the nhs now due to problems with them
Pay more and have the sleeve or bypass. You don’t have yo budget for the filling and emptying of the band and then it’s removal etc like
You do the band
I had bypass on the nhs at 50 bmi

@Rubicon80, she wasn't underweight, she was at the BMI 30ish mark, which is the lowest BMI doctors will consider for bariatric surgery.

At the moment I have disc problems that affect my lower back and legs , I also have problems with my knees sometimes buckling underneath me when I’m walking, because of this exercising is difficult. I know 15St 6Ibs isn’t a lot for some people but for me it is drastically affecting my life. I’m not going into this lightly and I know £7,500 is a lot of money and to be honest because of this I don’t know if it’s something I will go ahead with.

Personally I’d invest that money on counselling and try hypnotherapy and delivered meals first.

Don't have a gastric band - one of the biggest mistakes of my life😒

user1492729177 · 29/08/2019 21:37

I have had a gastric band and a gastric bypass and the bypass is much the better option, so much so, my surgeon doesn’t perform bands operations any more

Abbey0134 · 30/01/2020 20:53

I had a band, it didn't work. Had it done privately and just starting process to have it removed on the NHS - one of my biggest regrets in life. I hate it!
