I did not realise tantrums could be this bad

My DS is just turned 2 and he's had some impressive tantrums but this is something else.

Screaming, throwing, trying to tip over the dining room chairs, banging his head on the floor scratching at his face. He's even bit me so hard when I tried to stop him hurting himself it's going to bruise. His forehead is now bruised and has scratches all over it.

I didn't realise someone so little could have so much fury inside.

Once, when ds1 was at the height of the terrible twos, he had a tantrum that lasted 90 minutes one evening, and the following morning, he had another one lasting at least 45 minutes, before 9am! I was beside myself, on the phone to dh in tears because I couldn't cope - and then he went quiet, so I ended the call, and went to investigate.

I found him in the kitchen, standing by the bin, eating the leftover tortilla chips dh and I had thrown away the night before. My first thought was to stop him - but then I thought that he was certain to start tantrumming again if I did remove him from his delicious bin-snack, so I didn't!! Shock

I waited until he got bored and finished, and wandered off, then I emptied the bin, and found somewhere to hide it so he couldnt' get at it again.

So I can empathise with the shock at how bad tantrums can be - when my son had ones so bad I let him eat from the bin rather than risking another tantrum!

Not my finest parenting moment - but it comes in handy when people on here are criticising their own parenting, and being so down on themselves - I tell this story, and say I hope it makes them feel better because their parenting isn't as bad as bin-snacks!

That did make me chuckle, thank you. I would like to say I would have stopped DS but don't think I could hold myself to it
