Waitrose rewards - anyone else find them measly?

We do a lot of our food shopping at Waitrose, it is the nearest and largest supermarket and it is on my way home. I like the quality and variety of the food and always use the loyalty card but it is definitely a more expensive choice than other big supermarkets.

But after previously shopping mostly at Tesco and using Clubcard points for days out/meals out etc, I find the occasional 50p discount coupon from Waitrose to be rather pointless, I invariably forget them while they are still in date.

I don't need a cup of tea/coffee as I'm going around the store so I don't take advantage of that. Does anyone else find their loyalty discounts a bit measly?

They often send me £11 off a £80 shop but as the stock levels are so appalling around here I can never do a full shop there so they go unused. If I try I invariably have to go to Sainsbury's afterwards to get the basics that Waitrose had empty shelves of.

I only have the card so I can use the Quickscan.

Just don't swipe your Waitrose card too often, once a month should do it, then you'll be more likely to get the £8 off £40 vouchers Grin

I shop there two or three times a week and have just received a voucher for £10 to be spent at JL. So no, I don't find them measly Smile

That's a good idea Hat, it's not like Tesco where you get points every time you shop, so perhaps the OP needs to do a few stealth shops, perhaps wearing a disguise and paying cash, if she wants to be sure, and the money off vouchers will come rolling in, to tempt her back.

M&S is absolutely the worst. I don't even bother scanning my Sparks card. My mum and dad, who don't have Sparks, get a £5 off £35 spend, which comes out with their receipt, practically every week and pass it on to me anyway

" so perhaps the OP needs to do a few stealth shops, perhaps wearing a disguise"

Sounds like a solid plan. Fake mustaches at the ready

I shop at waitrose because i believe they treat their suppliers better than other supermarkets. Now its also my local so that helps. Agree the loyalty card is only worth it for self scan. If you pay off s credit card every month, the partnership card is good for vouchers off your shop, but the apr is high so not worth it if you run a debt balance.

Fantasisa · 29/08/2019 13:22

I'd happily go in disguise but I have to use my card to do the self scanner and that is probably more important to me than the inevitable 50p off raspberries voucher I'd still receive!

But if you barely use your card (like I do) then you'll get a sheet of £8 off a £40 spend. It's 6 vouchers I think

I can do without the self scanner for that, tbh

Just got the most ridiculous Waitrose voucher ever and thought of this thread.

£29 off a £192 spend. Shock

At no point have I ever spent anything approaching £192 on a weekly shop in Waitrose!

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2019 19:20

I bet some people do over Christmas. When does it expire though?

I do a small shop in Waitrose several times a week (we're retired, and ours is a lovely one!) and I get the £8 off a £40 spend vouchers. I keep an eye on non food things I might want, birthday cards, kitchen items, wine etc, the sort of things that tot up to £40 easily enough, then buy them all together when the vouchers arrive.

I get a free coffee for me and my DM (using both of our cards, all above board), and also a free newspaper for her. Plus the dreaded Daily Fail on Saturday because it has the best TV guide.

I also have a John Lewis credit card which gives me double points when I use it in Waitrose, converted into gift vouchers four times a year.

It works well for me. The only thing I miss about Tesco is being able to convert my Clubcard vouchers into RAC membership.
