I'm just through the door after an utterly exhausting day & I haven't the brain power to trawl the news. Can you explain in baby language the significance of what Boris has done today? Many thanks

Parliament could still vote in a law to block a no deal brexit.
They could still put forward a vote of no confidence in the government.
And they could force a GE.

Any of these could be done in the time that we/they have left even with the suspension of parliament.

But to those that are saying that we need every moment, parliament has done fuck all in the last 3 years, what make you think that they would be doing anything other than taking the money?

That's massively more difficult now because of the other stuff that needs to take place in those few days parliament will be on before the Brexit date.

That's not a reason to just shut it down tbh.

Bojo has had one day in Parliament so far.

No its not a reason just pointing out that Any of these could have been done in the last three years.

And yes it will be more difficult to do it now, but those that were voted in to represent the population could have pulled their fingers out of their arseholes and actually done their jobs instead of all the grandstanding.

boneyback I can see where you're coming from but we are where we are now, so something not having been agreed on in parliament isn't a reason to shut it down.

In that 3 years there were negotiations with the EU which took up a lot of it. The withdrawal agreement being put to parliament relatively late in the 3 years is the fault of the Tory party alone, so it's a bit rich of them to use that as a reason to now bypass parliament altogether. Bojo is acting like an entirely new party has been elected Confused

Stop the world, I want to get off!

That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary. There wasn't even any rioting in the streets. People stayed home at night, watching television, looking for some direction. There wasn't even an enemy you could put your finger on.

Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale

Rereading the Handmaid’s Tale at the moment, this jumped out at me.

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/08/2019 18:00

It is interesting how many people are apparently reading Margaret Atwood at the moment.

@boney

I know, it’s as though we (humans as a mass) never learn.

I think this is the general feeling among a large proportion of the populace.
