What have you found keeps warm in a flask well in a packed lunch?

I'd like to start giving DS hot lunches on some days in a thermos food flask I've bought when he goes back this term and just wondered what things people have found keep warm well in a flask for lunches aside from soup.

On a Facebook post I saw someone suggest sausages and mash in a flask so it made me wonder if I'm thinking too plainly with spag bol (his favourite) and a rotation of soups!

My dd loves spaghetti hoops in a flask with a bread and butter sandwich on the side. Beans and sausages work well too.

Whatever food you choose just make sure that you pre-warm the flask.

Fill with boiling water and leave for 5 minutes (lid on) before you empty it and put in the hot food.

This tip makes all the difference in keeping food warm on cold days.

Ah that's a fantastic tip re preheating thank you! I can see why that would make a massive difference!

Hoops are a good shout but he will not despite my perseverance over 7 years eat beans. Drives me nuts, it's such an easy tea! Grin

Mugshots work well as long as you pre-heat the flask first

Pasta in any kind of sauce, stew with veg or potatoes, stir fry, chilli.

Curry is great although I send in with naan bread as i don't like the idea of the rice all mixed up. also, I know it's soup but ramen is particularly brilliant in a thermos.
Whenever I have a chicken carcass I make a well flavoured ramen stock as it freezes well and is then really quick to turn into a meal 10/15 minutes on the hob and I add carrot, onion, ginger, spinach then top with a boiled egg and some sesame seeds plus cooked meat if I have any leftover or tofu & nori.

my dc would eat a ramen over sandwich type lunch any day.

DD enjoys:
Fish fingers, mash and hoops/beans
Pasta with sauce
Soups
Spag bol

I really want some ramen now mad!

We've just got our first food thermos (for hot lunch during outdoor hobby) - just did pasta in tom sauce at weekend and it was great.

Has anyone tried chilli/curry in with rice? I think it will work, DH thinks rice will go funny...

The Stanley food thermos is great
DD used to complain that too hot at lunchtime 🙄
I looked at others, but none kept food warm as long
YY to warming flask with boiling water while you reheat the food

She used to have anything we had from night before
Here favourite was on Mondays - left over roast meat, cut up roast potatoes, cut up Yorkshire pud and veg with gravy
Curry and chilli with rice was good
Any pasta dish
Fajitas - had the chicken/beans, peppers onions mix in flask and took a wrap separately
Mashed potatoes and baked beans 😳
Cottage or shepherds pie
Did herself noodles occasionally
So anything I really that's a bit wet with a sauce
Leftover takeaway

She loved it

@LtGreggs - my late teen/young adult both take rice with curry or chilli regularly in a flask with no issues. Rice in the bottom, "wet" dish on top. If it's very saucy then yes, the rice will soak it up but it's still yum. With dry dishes it stays more separate. We tend to use basmati which is nice and fluffy steamed in a rice cooker but ds will use microwave rice if left to his own devices and says it is also nice.

Risotto is another good flask meal.

Thanks all, some great ideas for me to work through!
