Please tell me how to get water out of my ear!

Yesterday whilst playing in the paddling pool I got water splashed in my ear. It's still there and driving me mad. I can hear it swooshing every time I move my head. Whenever I get water trapped in my ear it tends to stay for days.

Does anyone have any tried and tested tips?

You should hear the water dislodge and air fill your ear. Oh god I know the feeling. I get it every single day 😭 I have to put Vaseline on my ears before every wash 😭

It seems to have come out over night. I'm disappointed not to have felt the satisfaction of it coming out of my ear!

Oh no! Never mind, at least the plunging did it 🤣

Well I spoke too bloody soon! It does seem better than it was but I've still got that sloshing sound a bit. Aarrrrrgggghhhh!

I get a bit of kitchen roll ...it's stronger than tissue, and screw the corner into a wispy point and then twist that into my ear.
You have to get the wispy point just right though, not so fat it won't go in, and not so thin there is no substance to it or it won't go all the way in.

Lie on your side with that ear upwards. Poor water in. I know! But it all comes out together. Happens a lot to me after swimming.

Try doing a somersault! Do it quite slowly, I was very sceptical, but it does work!

Dowser · 28/08/2019 11:12

I wondered if it had unearthed some wax as well

lotusbell · 28/08/2019 11:15

Try gently pulling your earlobe down too, while tilting your head. I get this quite often too and have also had an ear infection because of it. Hope it comes out soon, it's a lovely feeling!

MargoLovebutter · 28/08/2019 11:18

I get a bit of loo roll and make it into a really fine twizzled point and then twiddle it around in the watery ear. A couple of goes and I can usually get the residual water out - it is so annoying.

miniaturelocomotive · 28/08/2019 15:40

@TonTonMacoute try doing a somersault???? I think there's more chance of me training to syringe my own ears.

Someone at work suggested pouring more water into it as it helps to release the air pocket and then it can all come out but I'm not sure I can bring myself to put even more water in my ear.

I see you have it out now but I get this a lot. An audiologist told me it's because of the shape of my ear canal (kind of like a hockey stick so the water pools in the bottom).

He also told me about the kitchen roll method that another poster suggested. It works for me.

TonTonMacoute · 28/08/2019 17:21

@miniaturelocomotive

😂 Fair enough! It does work though and is a useful tactic to use for DCs.

miniaturelocomotive · 28/08/2019 17:50

I've just tried a Hopi ear candle. It's still fucking in there!!! I want to cry.

What do we think to putting more water in my ear? Bad idea?

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 18:07

@miniaturelocomotive I really wouldn't

Rosebud21 · 28/08/2019 18:22

if the water is in the right ear, tilt your head to the right (& vice versa), straighten the ear canal by holding the outside ear & gently pulling upward, or gently pull your ear lobe downward, do this until you feel water trickle out, usually take a few seconds

look at the images here basicmedicalkey.com/e/

Honestly! Putting more water in works for me every time! I do it on a weekly basis!
