Different opticians, different prescriptions?

I went to see an optician and wasn't very confident with the consultation so decided to get a second opinion. The second prescription was different do decided to get a third one to be on the safe side but I now have three prescriptions and don't know which one to trust (see prescriptions below). Anyone out there with knowledge on the matter or has been on a similar situation??

Optician 1:
SPH CYL AXIS
R -0.50 -0.75 150
L +1.50 -2.25 160

Optician 2:
SPH CYL AXIS
R -1.00 -0.75 150
L +1.00 -2.25 170

Optician 3:
SPH CYL AXIS
R -0.50 -0.50 140
L +1.25 -2.75 170

1 and 3 are very similar. Which optician did you get on with best? Take your prescriptions and discuss with them

It’s not an exact science. Prescriptions can vary slightly from day/day and often patients are between 2 values. We also up or down it sometimes depending on age or eye muscle balance or depending on what you had in your glasses last time.
Do you wear contact lenses? They can have an effect on the prescription.
I’d just go with the one who you end up getting your glasses from.

I got on better with Number 1 but will likely get glasses from number 3 as number 1 was quite expensive.

I don't wear lenses, prescriptions are only for glasses.

I'd go with 3 then. One last question..did you have your current glasses with you for all the appointments?

KarlaG · 27/08/2019 14:05

Thanks, and Yes, i had my glasses with me for all the appointments

Did you order glasses? Opticians generally take responsibility for retesting you if they've supplied glasses based on their own prescription or one from elsewhere. Your prescription is based mostly on your responses to the questions asked while being tested so they're not always spot-on for whatever reason (tiredness, not having a particular preference for one or the other during the test etc). If your chosen optician is worth their salt, they'll sort it for you.
