Dd is going to college, not Uni, but it will lead onto Uni.
She's studying Applied Bioscience.
Her BF who she lives with is going into his second year of Computer Science.

I have one who studied Materials Chemistry and another who studied Ecology and Conservation Science.

Lots of really interesting subjects so far - would love to be 18 again!
My ds is going into year 2 studying accounting and finance.

Journalism (BA).
I'm in two minds, as obviously it's a dying field (insofar as newspapers are concerned), but she has a keen interest in current affairs, and it will hopefully equip her with plenty of transferable skills.
She missed out on her first choice course, which was English & Film Studies.

MothershipG · 27/08/2019 17:39

Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence (so when the robots take over it will be all his fault!) 😉🤣

drsausage · 27/08/2019 17:43

Mine's going to a US college so she hasn't had to choose a subject. I think initially she said some kind of Biology, but I doubt very much that's what it'll be by the time she finishes.

Physics.

DD is looking at Earth Science so I'd be interested if anyone else's DC are studying that.

@whiteroseredrose DC1 has a degree in Earth Science: Geology with an Oceanography minor. It's from a US university, though. Really enjoyed it and is now doing post-graduate studies in a specialism

hisnameisfreckles · 27/08/2019 18:55

Applied Computing it's a Bsc(honors) and he does first 2 years at local college so virtually no travelling then last 2 at Uni

whiteroseredrose · 27/08/2019 19:20

Hi mountains. Is there an accessible basic book that she can read to get a feel for it? She fancies earth science because she's enjoyed that element in geography. No local schools offer geology A level ☹️

Themountainsarecalling · 27/08/2019 19:55

@whiteroseredrose I don't recall DD ever having any specific books about Geology before university, she just always liked rocks, starting with the sort containing dinosaurs! She just watched programmes about them or read stuff online. She also didn't have an A level equivalent to Geology before she started, although her school did offer a short Geology course which she took. It didn't offer geography, though.

She did take maths, chemistry and biology as part of her advanced level qualifications and ended up taking quite a lot of physics, more than she'd anticipated, once she was at university. The physics could have been part of a particular module she elected to take, I'm not sure.

She really enjoyed her degree and the field trips she went on Smile

If you have any other questions, I can ask her, but she's off on a field trip at the moment without cell service so won't be a quick reply!

whiteroseredrose · 27/08/2019 19:58

Thanks mountains. My DS has suggested that YouTube might be worth a try initially!
