Left upper back spasm

Biologyquestion · 26/08/2019 20:14

My upper back has been in pain all day and just now I had an awful attack of it where I couldn’t move at all and had to be helped in the current sitting position I am in.

I had gone to have a shower but couldn’t take my top off and somehow ended up clinging to the bathroom door as moving from that position had me shouting in agony.

I have been on ibuprofen all day and hot water bottles - I am not sure what to do.

Does anyone have any advice - what else could I do? I am supposed to be going back to work tomorrow but don’t know if I will be able to.

That sounds extremely painful. Get a hot water bottle on it and take some opiate based pain relief if you can. If it hasn't eased by morning, get an emergency GP appointment, they may offer a muscle relaxant to help.

Thanks - have just taken ibuprofen though and don’t know if I can take it with anything else apart from paracetamol?

Which over the counter opiate?

Google nhs stretches for your particular complaint.

Davros · 26/08/2019 20:38

And do them of course

You can get co-codamol which has 8mg of codeine in over the counter. You can't take it until your next dose of paracetamol is due though as its combined with it.

Thanks a lot. It’s a little better but I am having to move around like the tin man. Will see what tomorrow is like.

Yes davros, I will try to get the area moving.

My DSis had terrible Sciatica and did stretches she found on the NHS website, although it was the last thing she felt like doing! Works like magic according to her
