Teenage trainers

Please help!!!
I have two teen boys who couldn't care less what they wear as long as they are comfy and I need to buy them each 2 pairs of trainers (home +school). I'm losing the will to live browsing online...

What are good value for money, last long, and will not be mocked too much 😀

Ds just gets his from sports direct

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 17:37

But which one? They have a gazillion to choose from 😀

Go in the shop and try them on

I think it depends on what style your teen is into? Classic Vans? Or Air Force 1 Why don’t you look at what their friends wear and buy those? X

dementedpixie · 26/08/2019 17:40

Ds ended up with sketchers

mysteryfairy · 26/08/2019 17:41

They must have some idea what others they know are wearing. It really varies by area/type of teen. My DD, her boyfriend and all her friends seem to have owning a pair of vans black and white old skool in common if that helps.

MaureenSowerbutts · 26/08/2019 17:44

Adidas Superstars are still popular with DDs friends as are Nike Air Max

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 17:45

Honestly they have no clue. I doubt they could name a brand apart from their last pair.
They want something plain that nobody will notice.

So let them choose something plain from the website.

It's not like you're dragging them out of the house and round the shops in the heat.

Surely they can just point a couple of pairs out online?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/08/2019 17:53

@TooDamnSarky you are lucky to have teens like that. I went shopping with my two at the weekend. DD wants Stan Smiths as her weekend trainers (even though her last pair from TKMaxx only cost £17) and DS (buying his own) was after Pharrell Williams for Adidas ones @£75+. I was Shock at the cost of them TBQH.

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 17:53

Yup they can choose. I was just hoping for a few brand suggestions to help narrow the search.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The vans look great for home. Just need something more sporty for pe etc.

Then you are very lucky and I have no sympathy... Grin

I have spent a hideously long time today (hottest day of the year) in Sports Direct with 14 year old DS with size 11 wide feet and the ONLY pair of football boots that apparently fitted him were £155.

I have a pair of £5 Primark ballet pumps on my feet and we had a fairly heated discussion about how insane he thought I'd need to be to pay that for a pair of boots, particularly considering he also needs trainers AND school shoes.

The upshot was that I grudgingly said I would got to £70 and he has agreed he'll pay the rest out of his summer job earnings. But I'm still annoyed at the rip off prices.

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 17:55

£

OP posts:
TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 17:56

Sorry for that. Was trying to express my horror at spending over £150 on trainers 😀

My two are definitely low maintenance!

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/08/2019 17:58

I didn't spend that amount. DS will be buying his own and DD will only get hers if she has them as part of her birthday present. She is a chancer though!!! White trainers for winter shoes - hmmm???? So practical not.

Starlight456 · 26/08/2019 17:58

I would say my Ds who is very brand conscious is either Nike or Adidas.

However I agree take them to sports direct or designer outlets if you have one nearby let them choose . If they don’t start picking clothes shoes now when will they . My Ds is given a maximum budget

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 18:03

But we did a deal!
I'd buy their trainers if they cook tea 😀

My son likes trainers and his home trainers usually cost at least £100, sometimes almost £200.

But for PE at school he says people aren't bothered so is happy with any Nike or Adidas pair. We've just bought some Nike Air ones on sale at Very for £60.

If they're not bothered just choose any Nike or Adidas in mainly black and they'll be fine.

TooDamnSarky · 26/08/2019 18:09

Thanks. Have just found some very dull black Adidas that should do the trick for pe.

Glad you sound sorted! DS drives me mad - none of the others, who are now grown up, cared at all for 'labels' but he is extremely fussy about what he'll wear. Ridiculous!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/08/2019 07:31

Glad you've found some that will do the trick @TooDamnSarky.

Personally I dislike trainers with a vengeance, so cannot see why the DC get so hyped about brands. TBF DD is much more label conscious than DS but she has a more well-off friendship group.
