Eurax cream.

I always get reactions to bites and this is the only thing that stops the itch.

ThePhoenixRises · 26/08/2019 17:29

This stuff is amazing, we use it for bites, stings, eczema, rashes etc

We cover them with a spra-ony plaster or nail varnish. Truly does work.

*spray-on plaster, obviously Hmm

Fraggling · 26/08/2019 17:35

Zapper thing is amazing

Loopydoop · 26/08/2019 17:43

If I'm really itching I run the hairdryer over the bites until it just stings, stops the itch for a while.

HaroldThatsEnough · 26/08/2019 17:48

As Loopy says, you need nothing other than a hairdryer. Put it on warm and point it at the bite, which will become intensely itchy. One it becomes uncomfortably warm, switch off. The itching should stop for at least 24 hours. If it does return, first the process. No need for any lotions or potions.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 26/08/2019 17:50

Antisan is the best cream I've found.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 26/08/2019 17:50

Thirding the hairdryer method! It really does work

DianaT1969 · 26/08/2019 17:54

I can't believe nobody has said tea tree oil. It's the best!

Mentounasc · 26/08/2019 18:07

Just on the offchance that you're breastfeeding, breast milk works a treat for any sort of skin injury. It has anti- bacterial properties.

timeforawine · 26/08/2019 18:41

After bite

PermanentPortakabin · 26/08/2019 18:47

Ooh, hairdryer trick sounds interesting.

My two tips are:

rub a dry bar of soap over the bites, or

roll on deodorant applied to the bites

Both stop the itching for a while.

StellaBoo · 26/08/2019 18:47

Heat. Found this out by accident holding a hot cup of tea to my leg. Hold against for as long as you can stand until itch stops

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2019 18:49

@DianaT1969, I did mention tea tree oil!

SymphonyofShadows · 26/08/2019 18:51

I’ve done the hot teaspoon thing and found it works for about 24 hours until repeated. I’m guessing that the hairdryer does the same thing.

SpamChaudFroid · 26/08/2019 19:03

Lit cigarette held as close to the bite as you can stand for as long as you can take it.

Outsomnia · 26/08/2019 19:08

Yes a good hot intense heat source will solve it, if that is a hot teaspoon or a hairdryer, good.

Bites are awful. But I know what to do now. It's the teaspoon method for me. Means I can get out of bed and go to the kitchen and quietly DO my bites with the spoon under the boiling tap! No disturbance for anyone else. Apart from poor me!

EverTheConundrum · 26/08/2019 19:40

Instead of dangerous scalding suggestions just get a piece of ice and hold it on as long as possible. Also, I second the Eurax cream it's truly fabulous. Also works well for Thrush

MrsPinkCock · 26/08/2019 20:53

I currently have FIVE of the fuckers.

Don’t touch them. It makes it worse.

Bite cream and ice works temporarily. Swimming pool chlorine kills Angry

You’d think I would have learned to douse myself in insect repellent after contracting viral meningitis from a bite last year but apparently I’m a fucking idiot Hmm stupid thing is in 40 years I’ve never been bitten apart from my last two holidays Angry

Outsomnia · 26/08/2019 21:34

Ice melts in two seconds in a hot country. Doesn't work sorry. Lots of drips everywhere and no relief.

Ironically it is a heat source that will work in the end.

Cherrysoup · 26/08/2019 21:51

Afterbite stick, containing ammonia. Stinks but well worth it. I was bitten to bits in Greece.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 26/08/2019 21:55

Anthisan - also works for nettle stings on dog paws and jellyfish stings Wink

drsausage · 26/08/2019 21:59

Nothing really does.

Not for me anyway. Why I moved to northern New England I will never know.
