Does anyone else's child not stop talking?!

He's 5 and I swear he doesn't shut up. He talks constantly. I've made a massive effort today to give them a good fulfilling day.
9 am they were both out on their bikes with baby in the pram. Rode to the local playing fields I talked, tried to help him ride his bike more confidently, played football, and then park.

3 bloody hours we were out.

Then out to meet family for Sunday dinner. Now we're back. I've got my feet up on the couch with the newborn laying on me and I just want to chill for a little bit before bed time starts.

But he won't piss off! He won't shut up and stop chatting absolute rubbish. I've even said to him that I'm a little tired after all we've done today but he just sits for 10seconds and then starts again!!!

He's always like this. But it's been highlighted more with the summer holidays.

JFC bring on the start of school.

Please tell me I'm not alone!!

He's been talking about the babies hair, and how hair grows for the past 5 mins 😐

You're not alone! Mine is 5 too and the dross that waffles out of his face is astounding. I can't wait for the school hols to be over

Newearringsplease · 25/08/2019 17:35

I've got 3, oldest 20 youngest 14, all of them are talkers all at the same time. They won't talk to each other just to me. And they all want to be with me ALL the time talking and talking. I can't follow anything on the TV because of it

EL8888 · 25/08/2019 17:37

My boyfriend was like this as a child apparently! People used to comment they never knew a child who talked so much. He’s 37 and quite bad for it now as well! Can you and baby pretend to be asleep for a bit?!

4 year old won’t shut up..... trying the whole love bombing thing after a few difficult weeks but I swear I can’t cope with anymore of the running narrative... plus ‘why? Why? Why? Why?’ Etc

chickenyhead · 25/08/2019 17:43

Yep, I feel ya, I have DD 6 and DS 10 that never stop. My favourites are "look at me..." reply in monotone "oh wow you can stand on one leg, awesome" and " would you rather..." reply, neither because I am dead inside.

Luckily my 13 year old doesn't want to talk (until all of the others are asleep that is).

I have given up. I am a husk. 1 week to go...

Contraceptionismyfriend · 25/08/2019 17:43

They won't talk to each other just to me

Yes! There's also a 3 year old she would love to talk to him. Why doesn't he go and blab to her!

@EL8888 I would but then the 3 year old comes and shouts at me because "it's morning"
And it may be frowned upon as DH has gone to work (lucky bastard)

I have 3 like this. They will all talk and talk and talk for the sake of it. I have to hide from them sometimes or I would go mad

Contraceptionismyfriend · 25/08/2019 17:47

Thank you all for the solidarity.

However I don't like your children's ages. It suggests this fresh hell isn't going to end soon!!

He was my PFB and I went way over the top doing loads of BS to teach him to talk! Hahahahah more fool me!

spiderlight · 25/08/2019 17:52

Mine is 12 and he hasn't drawn breath since he learned to talk (which was at 9 months). His current obsession is aviation and he can talk about planes and flight simulators for hour upon hour. Always to me. DH knows far more about planes and is far more interested in them, but nope - I get it all! Until a few months ago it was Japanese drift cars. That lasted several years. I could go on Mastermind with the Toyota AE86 as my specialist subject. Prior to that, Minecraft. Ye Gods, the Minecraft phase.

He's at his grandma's for the week. It is so blooming quiet!

spiderlight · 25/08/2019 17:53

@LittleMissEngineer - lucky you! Mine talks in his sleep!!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 25/08/2019 17:53

Yes. 6 and 4. Do not fucking shut up. Ever. They talk at the same time. Why. WHY??? It doesn't matter how many times I tell them I can not listen to two people talking. Makes seeet FA difference.
To make matters worse my 6 year old has autism (think Aspergers type). He talks in numbers. Units of measurements. And jibberish. He mostly does not want a response other than to agree with him. It is virtually impossible to have a to and fro conversation. It's fucking exhausting to listen to.
I mean I love them. But SHUT THE FUCK UP FOR A MINUTE.

user1494055864 · 25/08/2019 17:53

Sorry but dd is 11, and she still does it. She still tries to start a conversation with someone when she is brushing her teeth. She talks all through dinner. Mindless nonsense most of the time. Even last night, her older sister just sat there puzzled, asking, "where did she come from?" as she was talking non stop and the rest of us aren't like that at all!

TitianaTitsling · 25/08/2019 17:54

DH and DC like this and they both talk AT me in harmony about really random unrelated things! It makes my head spin!!!

mnahmnah · 25/08/2019 17:55

7.5 year old like this. But also LOUD. And his tone of voice is ear-piercing. I have had a permanent headache for 5 weeks now.

idril · 25/08/2019 17:57

Mine was like this at that age. Enjoy it while it lasts. He is now a teenager and barely utters two words to me Grin.

That is an exaggeration but the incessant talking does suddenly stop and then you really miss it.

CMOTDibbler · 25/08/2019 17:59

Mines 13. Pretty much he has only been quiet while asleep or reading since he started talking.
Spiderlight, mine discovered Forged in Fire on Discovery, and now I could tell you all about welding techniques...

I do treasure his knowledge and communication, I really do, but his urge to tell you about everything is somewhat tiring...

mashpot · 25/08/2019 17:59

☝️ My 7.5 year old bellows, constantly! Actually thinking about getting him a hearing test. In solidarity

Contraceptionismyfriend · 25/08/2019 18:02

@mashpot I would recommend it. Chatterbox son was also loud and didn't listen a lot.

Finally took him to the Drs and he had bad glue ear. He had to have grommets in both ears and I was told the glue was very thick.

....he's still loud though.

Her0utdoors · 25/08/2019 18:05

Same, from 3, she's nearly 6 now. It doesn't. ever. stop. Now her little brother has joined forces. My ears are tired.

Biscusting · 25/08/2019 18:06

My dd3 is sitting next to me and just saying ‘waffles’ over and over again. She does want waffles just needs to say it incessantly Confused

I have two like this 😭

Xmasbaby11 · 25/08/2019 18:07

My 5 and 7 yo dds are the same. Cannot stop them talking. 7yo has ASD and often repeats herself or talks gibberish. Current obsessions:

How many babies they will have, boys or girls, what babies will eat, wear do, generally planning their entire lives
Planning their birthday parties. What, where, who, the cake etc. Oh the detail. Sometimes with illustrations of the cake but obviously a non stop commentary while drawing. Both birthdays in January.
Plans for tomorrow, the day after, the day after ...
Their childhoods and generally all their memories ever

They never run out of things to say and will both talk to me at the same time. If i answer a question they will interrupt my answer with another question. It just never stops. They share a room and talk each other to sleep.

Biscusting · 25/08/2019 18:08

*doesn’t

She does not want waffles

F**king waffles waffles waffles

CookPassBabtridge · 25/08/2019 18:14

Love this thread. My 5 year old never stops. He happily goes to bed at 6pm with no issue but we can hear him talking to himself for another two hours sometimes GrinGrin

CookPassBabtridge · 25/08/2019 18:16

Forgot to add.. it started from being 6 months old. Babble babble babble. So much to say! I'm one of those people who like long quiet periods 😂
