Can anyone talk to me about leasing a car?

Hi all

We've always had company cars and / or bought on finance before.

We now need another car, and are considering leasing for the first time.

Does anyone have experience of leasing and can give any tips? Just want to pay a monthly fee for the car, including servicing, them swap it / give it back at some point.

Advice on getting a good deal / avoiding pitfalls most welcome, thank you

Hi
I’m leasing mine, 10 months in so far.
I decided to lease as my old car died, I’d been driving 10-15 year old cars for 30 years and wanted a newer car with all the gadgets I needed.I investigated pcp but I really don’t think they’re a good deal, was worried that they would deflate massively against what the companies prices etc
So I decided to lease- the monthly payment was the same price as a loan of same amount but included all you mention including breakdown cover .

As ppl state on all these types of threads, new cars deprecate as soon as they are driven off forecourt etc so if you want value for money buying a new car is not worth it, a 2-4 yr old car is better value, but if it is a new car and all of above you want then I think leasing is the way to go.
Yes you won’t own the car at end of term like if you had taken out a loan etc but then I would have taken a loan/pcp , spent same amount and car would be valued at far less.
I’ve a friend who done it for 6 years, getting a new car after 3 years in when lease was up and getting something new again an they said they wouldn’t go back to pcp again.
It’s a bit like renting In some ppls opinion, your paying out money for something , that you will never own and some see that as dead money.I don’t buy fancy clothes, jewellery, subscriptions, hobbies and Am not of the mindset I must have an expensive holiday each year, this is where I’ve chosen to spend my spare money for next 3 years for now, like a day, of having had very old cars, freezing cold in winter, no air con etc my last car even still had cassette player :-) I love my car now, know it’s safe, up to date, won’t play me up

Thanks for that, TheCrown - that's pretty much my thinking.

Aside from company cars, we've been responsible for maintenance, repairs, etc and as we've kept the cars for a long time, the expense has become unpredictable.

The thought of monthly payment for a reliable car has become appealing - don't care about the car, never thought of everyday cars as assets.

Did you find you could negotiate to get a good monthly rate?
