What's it like living in the Lake District?

Good morning! Dh and I are pretty sure, after lots of thought, that we would like to move to the Lake District. We have 2 primary dc and a very average budget. We want some scenery and a community feel.

Obviously it's a big area and the next step is to identify exactly where. So where is good, but also where can we discount immediately? Is it a lovely way of life? Where we currently live is very aggressive and crime ridden and for the sake of the dc we really owe them a better way of life.

I would be looking to find work there, and dh would need good road links.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, could anybody give me any information on Aspatria please? I am considering moving to a village there with my family and was hoping I could find some advice/opinions on it. I have doe lots of research on google but I really would like to know more from a personal perspective, it would be really helpful thanks!

EMMIE you'd do better to start your own thread rather than adding a post to one from several months ago!

EMMIE, what's the rationale for moving to Aspatria? It has a train station but in all honesty it's quite isolated. If you need to be in that area I'd move to Cockermouth or one of the villages outside as there's a bit more going on. PM if you want more info as I am from this area.

I live in Kendal so not technically in the National Park but pretty close. I really like it as there are so many outdoor activities on the doorstep. Schools are good. Close to the m6. I would hate to live in a twee village or tourist trap but Kendal is a functioning town albeit with too much traffic.

We're looking at moving back to the UK from Australia. I was brought up in Cumbria and really keen to get back for family - though I've been away 25yrs snd I know things will have changed. My son's 12 and we're looking for a good secondary school with a strong creative focus and outdoor ed. Does anyone have any feedback or thoughts about Keswick v's Kendal options. We're considering QEGS in Penrith but it's v hard to get into. Thanks
