Talk to me about period pants

Specifically the ones that replace other menstrual products. Do you use them? Do you like them? Is it any less irritating changing your pants every few hours than just changing a pad? Looking for reusable options for when my period returns and since having my baby I'm feeling really squeamish about inserting anything (like a mooncup).

Sorry not tried, I’m no help but I am following because I am also looking for a reusable option that is not the moon cup (have real anxiety over inserting)

OP I purchased period pants recently. They are called Wuka. I am so delighted with them. I have used cloth sanitary towels for many years but I have a heavy flow and was always worried about leaking. I used to leak onto the bed at night quite frequently despite wearing a giant pad or two sometimes. They aren't cheap but they are so effective I now have 6. I wish they had been around when I was younger. You can wear thrm for 8 hours and they hold alot of blood. I wear one pair overnight and I haven't leaked at all ever. In the day they are comfy and I always feel dry. I can't tell you how much they have helped me.

I have some, can't remember the name specifically but they look like normal pants but are thicker because they have 2 layers and presumably some sort of waterproof layer in between. They are comfy enough, like normal pants and great for the days when my period has mostly stopped but I always get a small second bleed a day or so later.
I wouldn't ever not use any other protection as my periods would be too heavy and I do find I can smell the blood.
I also find if I wore them on a long shift at work (12 hour hospital) I'd get nappy rash - ouch! I guess due to lack of breathability.

I use a mooncup, and reusable pads - sometimes together for particularly heavy days/nights but mostly the pad for lighter days.

DD uses Modibodis. She is a young teen and her periods are fairly light so it may not suit anyone.

She can manage a school day with a heavy period one or a medium one depending on her flow. She has a pair of knickers and normal pads as back up but in general changes when she comes home, so it works from 7am to 4pm. She can manage overnight as well.

I don’t use them as I dislike any washable ones due to the fact that my periods can be very heavy and I cannot change at work easily. Same reason not using the cups, no way I can empty and re-insert without having a mess. I can’t even do tampons at work.

They take a while to dry though, you cannot throw them in the dryer.

Would they be any good for mild incontinence??

Branleuse · 24/08/2019 23:12

Ive recently ordered the cheeky wipes ones for my dd as they seemed much more affordable. Hasnt actually tried them yet but they don't look very thick.

pregnantncnc · 24/08/2019 23:14

@5BlueHydrangea I am sure I saw an add the other day from a period pants company who now make different pants specifically for incontinence. I can't remember the brand (might have been modibodi or thinx) but they certainly exist.

As for period pants, I love them. I've only used thinx but want to try others (As they were v expensive). I have a very heavy day 1 of my periods (changing a super night time pad every hour, leak every time overnight), followed by a week of lighter bleeding. On day 1, I only need to change pants every 4-5 hours. On the other days they can last 'all day' (I work shifts so by that I mean they last 12-14 hours without leaks). For me they've been revolutionary as I can't use a cup or tampons as "back up".

TantrumToddler · 24/08/2019 23:15

I use the Cheeky Wipes ones, they are brilliant. I also use their washable pads. I have endo with very long, heavy periods so can't afford disposable pads as I'm on so often and for so long. Also I was flooding through them, and tampons cause me more pain. The CW pads and pants are so absorbent even for my really heavy nights.

PP they do pads for incontinence too. Not sure about the pants themselves, but I don't see why not.

The CW are very true to size as well, I found other options were vaguely sized whereas CW are a roomy 14-16 so perfect for my backside!

Recently bought DD some from Modibodi. She's very pleased with them. They seem to work well, comfortable to wear, no leaks.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 24/08/2019 23:22

I use Thinkx for the last couple of days of my period. Very good so far, been very impressed. Apparently they hold two large tampons worth. On heavier days, I use my mooncup which is amazing and has revolutionised my period. Can't rave about them enough.

Missanneshirley · 24/08/2019 23:27

I've just bought some cheeky wipes ones for dd age 11 who is just on her 3rd period - what an amazing invention. I sent her off on a sleepover with them as we knew she was due - she popped them on when her period started, played a sport, time with friends then came home to me and told me she'd started. No drama, no disruption to her time with friends, I'm so pleased for her! I don't get a period now but if i did I'd definitely be using these!
