Is this a thing? Could you look at my thread in education please?

Yes, it can be a thing. If you are certain you can do the work, revise, take practice papers and be ready.

If you have an FE college you could ask to sit as an external candidate. Ask if they can already work with whichever exam board you have chosen, or which they use so you can prepare for that one.

Schools will also be able to do this but are less likely to be used to the idea, procedures involved.

Thank you.

So it's actually an exam? I really don't know much about it at all. I think I've completely got the wrong end of the stick about it.

Yes. You did an assessment paper, to see what course you should be put on. But that doesn't give you any evidence or qualification at Level 2.

Most colleges get students to do simialr assessments if they don't aready have GCSE at C or above - I used to run a Maths and English department in an FE college.

If the college you are at do Functional Skils they can show you were al the test papers are and you can have apractice, then they should be able to be flexible enugh to arrange an exam for you - they are online and run all the time, the exam officer just has to arrange it - which can be the sticking point as it can take the same number of staff for a single person as for a room full of students!

Nonetheless you can be entered for and take the exam without having to attend classes, if they agree to accommodate you.

For Functional Skills English there are two exams, on in Reading and one in Writing, plus an assessed Speaking and Listening exercise.
Even if your English is at the right level you need to know how to, for example, construct a report and you need to have a decent knowledge of language features (metaphors, idioms, hyperbole etc). If your English is good you could swot up over a weekend.
Exams can be requested at any time, but without attending a college I'm not sure how you could complete the S and L.
You're best bet is to get in touch with your local FE college and ask, most will run workshops or evening classes when candidates can be entered in exams when ready and this can be done pretty quickly.
