Who has bought recently? I really need to replace my 15 year old galilean flip up 3.0 with something much more lightweight. They're making my face and nose hurt. I'll be replacing my light too as it's part of the weight equation. However I'm balking at the cost, I reckon Lemonchase or Orascoptic or the other big brands are going to be £3K plus once vat is included. I know they're tax deductible but still...... I work only 2-3 days a week and 99.99 % nhs, so funds are not as available as they were when I was full time and childless! And then I came across The Loupes Company based at Guys. They're really very reasonable, and though they don't seem to do rep visits, you can go to them either at Guys or High Wycombe both of which are convenient. Any experiences?

Hi, I bought mine about 3 years ago from Douglas hart eyewear, service was superb, he is based in Scotland but not sure if he would travel. Can't for the life of me remember what make mine are (even though I wear them near enough everyday Confused).

thank you, I've just messaged them via their website. I fear they are probably in the Orascoptic / Lemonchase price range.

I’ve currently got evident loupes with the attached light. The loupes I can’t fault but I’ve had so many issues with the light over the years. (The cable snags on everything and then the light doesn’t work). I’ve heard very good things about Bryant but I have no idea of the cost. I don’t know anything about The Loupes Company, you’d be better off posting on gdpuk or for dentists by dentists

Thanks. I’ve posted on GDPUK. I’ve had more answers here though! Will try Dentists for Dentists too. Which light is it you’re having issues with?

I had a look on for dentists by dentists and there are recommendations for the loupes company but also you might want to consider optiloupes

RobinHumphries · 24/08/2019 16:16

this light the last cable has lasted approx 2 and a half years which is good going for me!

I have loupes from the loupe company. Im really happy with them. Comfy, light, easy to get on with. My only complaint is that they don't do visor clips so I've had to bodge something together myself. I did it all over whatsapp, they realised that one of my measurements was wrong as it didn't fit with my height which was really good.
If I wanted fancy loupes I'd be looking at byrant, the feedback and customer service is phenomenal. I did a Tipton type course a while back and the clinical lead had just been converted. Lots of threads on loupes on bd4d & the dentist UK, most voting for byrant.

If I was looking to replace now I'd definitely be going for a wireless light too.

bonzo77 · 24/08/2019 16:29

@Darkrainbow yes to wireless light. I've got used to the wire but being without it would be good. What do you mean by visor clips though: are you putting a disposeable visor over the whole set up?

@RobinHumphries that's annoying, but probably one of the cheaper components to replace. Though if I get a wire free one not an issue (probably to be replaced with some other one though)... Will look at optiloupes.

I cannot find "dentists by dentists". Would one of you be kind enough to post a link please?

It’s a facebook group

bonzo77 · 24/08/2019 16:41

Ah ok thank you.

Yes, a lot of frames have clips that you can attach a disposable visor straight on. I tend to put mine lower than the loupes rather than over the lot. I use homebargins stationary clips on mine - works well but will probably hide if the cqc turn up. Smile

bonzo77 · 24/08/2019 22:07

@Darkrainbow it’s actually a great idea. They’re expensive things to get covered in aerosol and then attempt to clean properly. I can’t imagine how they look with a visor on. Would you mind sending a pic when you’re at work: pm me if too public

I have loupes from The Loupes Company too, and just bought one of their visors to go with my loupes. From start to finish they were very professional and quick to respond, I'm very happy with my purchase! The loupes feel sturdy and the level of magnification is just what I was looking for. @Darkrainbow I don't know if it helps but this is the link to the visors if you needed it theloupescompany.com/loupes-visor/
