Enjoying the sun as a childless adult?

This may be a strange post but curious as to what days out other childless adults have over sunny weekends?
My friends are all busy this weekend so I will be alone and don't fancy staying at home. I don't mind going places by myself but think taking a walk around a country park or sitting in a beer garden alone may raise a few eyebrows?

I’ve been going doing that kind of thing without kids for years. Go and enjoy yourself.

People are far more focussed on themselves than anyone else OP. Nor sure why you are so self-conscious but there's a whole lot of single adults out there. Enjoy yourself.

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/08/2019 06:35

Why on earth would anyone raise eyebrows at someone walking on their own?

Go! Enjoy your previous, precious freedom! You can do whatever you want. (I have a six month old. I cannot.)

If you can ride a bike, put your postcode in here and see if there's anything near you this weekend:
www.letsride.co.uk/breeze
Or for mixed sex rides take /breeze off the end.

Oh! For a weekend by myself! Let’s swap places, you take my stroppy teenager to a family BBQ 2 hours drive away...and I will..

Walk, eat, read and sleep!

Sounds idyllic!

Visiting somewhere such as a National Trust property, or just do or visit somewhere that friends would not be interested in.

The new Pedro Almadovar film is out, I hope to see it next week.

Going out on your own for the first time is nerve-wracking, but go for it. People really don't notice, care or judge , and the few that do aren't worth bothering about. I hope you have a lovely weekendSmile.

You have a nice dilemma. In your shoes I would pack a costume and head for an early morning swim at a lido. I would then take some delicious provisions in a cooler bag and sit under a tree in my nearest park reading my latest book.

PullingMySocksUp · 24/08/2019 09:40

If you would feel self conscious on a walk on your own, dress the part as much as you can (small rucksack, sensible shoes and sun hat, or active wear). Then you look like a serious walker. But no one will think anything anyway Smile

Today - bit of housework, gardening, sitting in the garden in the sun.
Tomorrow - beach and sea swimming.
Monday - see what mood I'm in.

I grab a pair of headphones and a can of diet coke and sit and watch the ducks. A surprisingly relaxing activity.

Crinkle77 · 24/08/2019 15:12

I really don't think anyone would think it strange at all. Go for it!

Crinkle77 · 24/08/2019 15:14

babymama where do you live? Most people don't have a lido nearby and even if they did it would be absolutely heaving on a sunny bank holiday weekend.

Outsomnia · 24/08/2019 15:23

I don't believe a man would give a second thought to going out alone, into the pub or anywhere else for that matter.

I go out alone. It is so refreshing and freedom giving, walking, taking the tram/train to somewhere I haven't been before, lots of things. Kindle in the bag too!

Nobody cares so why should we? Not breaking any laws, just being independent.

And another thing, I doubt everyone else is having a ball. In fact I'd say many groups/families would swop places with me in an instant. But I don't care either way.

bluebeck · 24/08/2019 15:34

I often go for walks on local beach on my own. Loads of people doing the same, nobody is bothered about anyone else.

Also walk in local national park and again, it's just lovely to walk in the sunshine with my own thoughts, at my own pace. I love my own company but will sometimes take a book if I know I want to be out for a long time.

FrangipaniBlue · 24/08/2019 21:57

I live in the Lake District and while I'm not child free I do have a lot of child free time.

I absolutely go off walking on my own - up a fell in the sunshine is my favourite place to be Grin

INeedNewShoes · 24/08/2019 22:00

I was a childless adult and extremely single for many years. I went for long walks, exploring different places and lots of bike rides. I'd take a book, some headphones and just find nice places to sit and chill out.
