So there I was at 2am having a quiet wee when a mouse

decided to pop out from under the bath. It looked quite indignantly at me as though I was disturbing it!

I've ordered a couple of humane traps to catch it in and I've had a good clean around as well as a search for droppings (none that I could find). I generally wash up every night before bed and hoover daily so I don't think he was tempted in by the smell of food.

So please, lovely Mumsnetters, can you share with me your best suggestions for tempting him, we've named him Marvin, into the traps. I was thinking peanut butter and / or crunchy nut cornflakes.

Definitely can't get a cat as I am much too allergic otherwise I'd certainly borrow one, thanks for the offers.

Tonight, Marvin et al., has got chocolate buttons sandwiched together with peanut butter. If I don't have any luck then I'll rethink but need to be careful with poison as ds has a disability and likes to spend time out of his wheelchair on the floor. I could see him ingesting poison and causing all manner of trouble.

They're certainly cheeky little buggers aren't they?

No point putting down humane traps. Go for the kill. We had great success with The Big Cheese brand in our garage!
. And the best thing was chocolate buttons and jelly sweets (fruit pastiles I think). They love sugar ... much easier to load traps with than peanut butter and chocolate spread

We have a cat..fucking useless. Apparently only mice from the outside are any good.

Used humane traps. Still useless. The buggers ate all the food ,but traps were empty. Never caught one.

Got the snappy ones in the end. That sorted it. And yes, there were more than one.

Marvin says hi and is looking forward to moving to the lavender farm later today!

I think I'll leave the traps for a few nights in case there's more.

Thanks all for your help Smile

@bloodywhitecat that is my worst nightmare! I never ever sit on the toilet for very long after watching a DIY program where builders had made an error with the plumbing and the woman had had a rat bite her bum while she was on the toilet 😱

Omg Marvin is so cute!!

I had a book about a mouse called Marvin who's tail was cut off and his mum fashioned him a new one out of a rubber band.
I loved that book.

bloodywhitecat, stuff of my nightmares.

@GummyGoddess I called my son who fished it out with the aid of a beaker and his dad's toothbrush (we did replace it!) and he dispatched it. We think it had come in from the porch roof, the porch was right under the bathroom and I always left the window open but locked in the bathroom then dropped into the loo where it could swim about but not get out again. I have been told there are traps on the systems which make it virtually impossible for a rat to come up from the pipes.

My bloody cat brought a live one in and got bored with it Hmm I eventually caught it in a humane trap with a piece of hot dog after three nights; took it outside at midnight to release it. I was so pleased with myself and thought 'run free little mouse' until I saw a huge bat flapping around overhead Sad

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 24/08/2019 14:25

Have confronted one in a cupboard. We were eyeball to eyeball. The mouse just looked at me as if to say: ‘take your time. I’ve something booked for later on but we’re good for this staring contest for at least half an hour.’ The second I moved so did the mouse....flying leap past my nose and vanished into the woodwork

I saw my cat doing the same with a mouse the other day on the lawn, just staring at each other. Got to admire the balls of the mouse Grin

The only mice I had were brought in by my cats.

I heard a sound once and looked round to see both cats asleep and the mouse in their dried food bowl stuffing his/her cheeks with the biscuits.
