Really confused by allergy clinic appointment

My toddler had an allergic reaction a few months ago and today we had our clinic appointment for testing. We thought the culprit was cashew nuts and they did a skin prick test for all nuts.

DD did not react to anything Confused

However, the doctor said that she is still giving a diagnosis of a tree nut allergy, has prescribed a stronger antihistamine, given us a care plan for nursery etc They also took blood tests for further allergy testing I think.

I'm just confused about why we are assuming a nut allergy and putting all this stuff in place even though the skin prick test didn't show a reaction? Anyone else experienced this?

Just careful until the blood test results come back?

Maybe due to skin prick testing not being totally reliable? Perhaps the symptoms your dd displayed were concerning enough in the doctors eyes. Things may be assessed again after the blood test results. But better to assume nut allergy for now to be prepared. Was your dd on any antihistamines for anything when skin prick tested? I know your meant to be 7-10 days clear of antihistamines for testing. My dd developed a peanut allergy at a very young age which could lead to anaphylaxis.

I'm terrible allergic to tree nuts and all blood tests come back negative. I hear they're not too reliable

Terribly

Ah ok, I hadn't realised the tests weren't all that reliable - I'd assumed we would get a definite yes/no answer today.

I had photos from when she had the reaction so the doctor was quite confident she had an allergic reaction to something.
