Well this is thrilling...worktops

We can’t afford a completely new kitchen but we’re looking at some of those ‘kitchen refresh’ companies that come and change your doors and worktops etc.

I hate our current worktop. It’s dark grey laminate and has a funny texture that’s a bitch for things sticking to it and being difficult to clean.

I’d like a wooden one, but are they easily wrecked and difficult to look after?

Any alternative recommendations?

I wouldn't get real wood unless you don't mind maintaining it a lot with regular oiling and possibly rubbing down every now and then. Plus you have to be very careful with hot pans and spillage. How about wood effect laminate? There are some really good ones nowadays that look very natural.

Thanks @BooksAreMyOnlyFriends, yes I’m not known for being very careful and I’d hate to ruin it by putting a hot pan down straight on it

Hate wooden worktops for the reasons Books mentions. I’ve heard of those wrap around stone ones that are thin and literally wrap around your existing work surface - that might be a cheaper option than solid stone?
