Scrapping a car

Hi

I need to scrap a car and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole process, tbh.

I know it's 'easy' but I don't really trust it and I've already been patronised by the men I've spoken to on the phone at a couple of places who won't answer my questions and just reply with "it's alright, love, we know what we're doing" type responses etc.

I've just found removemycar online and the website looks good.

Has anyone got any experience of them that they could share please?

Or advice/recommendations!

Thanks.

Can you not just stick it on Facebook marketplace. I just go rid of a total MOT failure (bodywork, engine sound) by listing it as spares or repair. It went within an hour of listing it and I got £250 for it.

Just make sure you're transparent in your listing. Loads of places buy scrap and dismantle for salvageable parts.

Various online options are good. What you want to check is that you get a certificate of destruction and that the company are a registered recycler (dvla website).

Thanks.

Tbh, I've been a bit nervous about doing that although had considered it.

Did they tow it?

Yeah, it's deciding who.

So if they are registered, they'll be listed on dvla website? That's useful to know.

They came with a low loader. I stipulated in the ad that despite starting and driving, it could not be driven away as the tyres and bodywork were in such poor condition.

Thanks. Just trying to imagine how impressed my neighbours will be when a low loader turns up!

I suppose it won't matter who picks it up though- that's how it'll have to go.

I'd be tempted to try and sell it on Gumtree etc. People get fair discounts from new cars if they trade in via the scrappage scheme. If you sell it for £50 or something I'm sure people would do that.

Scrap value at a recyclers is 120-250 depending on the vehicle.

Our local fire station takes old cars for training maybe yours do ?
