London hotel

Hey all
I'm looking for a nice but cheap ish hotel in London - around kings cross, Euston, Russell Square area ideally. I can find very cheap hostels with shared bathrooms or rooms that are about £250+

I want something clean, decent and comfy with tv and a nice bathroom and only have about £150 max to play with - it would be mid week, term time and I just need one night.

Anyone have any suggestions or tips?!
Thanks so much

Russell Square hotel might fit the bill?

Have a look at the Jury’s Inn. Also the Imperial hotels group.

I always stay at Premier Inns with DD. Nice, clean rooms. They are the only hotels where you cant even hear the person next room. Plus kids breakfast is free if you purchase adult. And if they too tired to eat the evening kids meals are a good deal too. Their staff are always great. We've stayed k different premier inns in london a d throughout UK. Tried Holiday Inn a couple of times and Travelodge and really wasnt the same. We are going liverpool soon and wont even consider anywhere else.

Firm I work for uses the Royal Scot Hotel. Inexpensive and none of our guys who've put up there have ever complained to my knowledge.

Premier inns and travelodges all the way in London. Unless you are prepared to pay a very substantial sum of money they represent the best value.

confusedat30 · 22/08/2019 23:45

Second the hub by PremierInn, one of my fave London hotels when I'm not wanting to splash out

Euston Square Hotel

We stayed here for 3 night in June for £200 so it might be in budget, we booked through hotels.com.

It was right by Euston tube, a 5 minute walk from Euston station, across the road from Warren Street tube and a 20 minute walk from Kings Cross so it was a great location for transport!

Rooms were small but clean and comfortable with AC and TV.

poolblack · 22/08/2019 23:48

Premier inn kings cross. I pay around £150 a night midweek there and it's a great hotel. New rooms and the Bar & Block restaurant is a step above the usual Thyme that many PI's have.

DropZoneOne · 23/08/2019 00:01

Try the City Sleeper rooms at Royal National. The hotel is enormous, but these are newly refurbished and have a separate entrance and breakfast area.

KurriKawari · 23/08/2019 00:12

I would also ask yourself how much time you would spend in the hotel. We usually just want to sleep, wash, breakfast n come back for a short rest before going out for evening. Therefore all we need is bed, shower n breakfast. Everything else is unnecessary n not worth paying extra for.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Are the premier inn hub rooms really small?

Beware of Premier inn hub rooms - I almost booked one and then read that it was a windowless room! Surely a windowless room is a cupboard?! Apart from that I have always had good experiences at Premier inn!

poolblack · 23/08/2019 08:23

They are tiny. Claustrophobic.

Honestly, get a regular PI room and enjoy!

Crunchymum · 23/08/2019 08:29

Slightly off topic but I know someone who was considering buying a house with a windowless bedroom (1 bed property!). She went to view it and was seriously considering it [reasoning was - how much time do you spend in bedroom? / Surely guaranteed darkness when you sleep is a good thing?]

I don't think a single person thought she should buy the place despite it being a great location, massive space, high spec.... I mean a windowless bedroom is just wrong? Shock

That said for one night I'd be able to live with it.

plunkplunkfizz · 23/08/2019 08:33

The Wesley in Euston is good and cheap.

saythatagain · 23/08/2019 08:37

The last time we visited London we stayed at the Kings Cross Premier Inn; it was windowless. But, like a pp said, it was purely a base for and, it was within our budget, clean and quiet. The best bit was the aircon - walking into that room after a day of sightseeing etc, boiling hot, sweaty, clammy...., it was bliss!
Grant you, if we could afford to, we’d go elsewhere, but finances don’t allow.
We did stay in the Travel Lodge last year....it was hell. I could have baked meringues in that room. We left a day early and therefore had to stump up for further rail tickets. Awful, awful, awful.

mindutopia · 23/08/2019 08:40

Hub hotels are great. You will need to book in advance to get the best rates, but there is one at Goodge Street that I stay at often (as it’s near my office) for anywhere between about £70-140 depending on the time of year. It’s obviously more expensive now, but closer to £70-80 a night off season. They are also really nice hotels.

mindutopia · 23/08/2019 08:45

To answer your question, no the hub rooms aren’t necessarily small. You can book a small room or a larger one. Even the small one is fine for two people and the large ones are quite sizeable. I’ve only ever stayed in one that had no windows. Otherwise others have all had windows and the one I stayed at at Goodge Street had a window the entire length of the room! The lighting is great though anyway so you really don’t need windows anyway unless you don’t plan to leave your room. Still much nicer than the awful Travelodge near there and better than any London Airbnb I’ve stayed in.

poolblack · 23/08/2019 09:52

The last time we visited London we stayed at the Kings Cross Premier Inn;

I stay here at least once a month and have never had a room with no window!

motorcyclenumptiness · 23/08/2019 11:07

Windowless hub rooms are a thing but I've never stayed in one - last hub room I stayed in had amazing views of the Shard. I like the standard rooms because they're really well designed and appointed - good bed/bedding/shower/aircon/hairdryer/tech. Wouldn't want to share one though. You can pay for a bigger room if you need more space.

MrsKittyFane1 · 23/08/2019 11:36

Premier in Euston or St Pancras.
Both stones throw from Euston station & rooms have windows!

MrsKittyFane1 · 23/08/2019 11:36

Neither are premier inn hubs.

Ilikeanimalsmorethanpeople · 23/08/2019 11:40

Oh I love the Premier Inn Hub rooms would definitely recommend them OP as we have stayed in a few different ones in London. Yes they are small but we didn't feel claustrophobic. It has everything we needed and we liked how modern it was Smile

NoBaggyPants · 23/08/2019 11:45

I like PI Hubs, they're small but designed to not be claustrophobic, there's everything you need at the touch of a button!

I also really like Premier Inns. All normal Premier Inn rooms have windows.
