Parking. Who was wrong?

Visiting a friend today and all their street was full of cars parked. I decided to park the next road up.

Parked outside a house not blocking anyone in and making sure I wasn't blocking any driveways.

Resident next to the house I parked in front comes out and asks me what I think I'm doing. Before I can answer they go on to tell me there is a pay and display a few roads up.

I replied that I wasn't blocking anyone from accessing their drives and the car should be fine where it is.

They were aghast and stood arms folded shaking their head.

I just turned round, locked the car and walked away. I turned round to check on my car and they were stood taking a pic of my number plate.

That really annoyed me but I didn't want an argument so left it as that.

Who was in the wrong? I always thought you could park on a residential street if not stated otherwise.

Yes you can park anywhere unless it’s a private estate or has parking restrictions. What did she think taking a pic of your registration achieve? Silly woman.

You were in the right. As long as there are no parking restrictions, you can park anywhere. However some people seem to think that they own the space in front of their house!

She was wrong

You were perfectly entitled to park there assuming there were no restrictions otherwise. Some people seem to struggle with the idea that their property rights end at their boundary and dont include the public highway.

She was wrong. She can take all the pictures she wants, she will still be wrong.

If no parking restrictions park where you like. Very simply inform such people if they are that precious they should buy a house with a driveway
Also take a pic of them taking a pic of your car and let them know if anything happens to your car they will be prime suspects

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I did think of taking a picture of them taking the picture, but then it all just felt a bit silly so didn't bother.

She did make me doubt myself and even though my friend agreed that anyone can park down that road I still felt uneasy and cut my visit short.
