She's finally relaxed after gcse results and would like something to fiddle with to while away the next week or so. She likes cross stitch and used to love making those little paper outfits from klutz when she was younger! I'm totally non crafty Blush so have no idea what she might like other than maybe colouring?

Origami and friendship bracelets are popular with the teenagers I work with.

Also consider starting a huge tricky jigsaw

We set one up on the table at Xmas and it was brilliant- we all dipped in and out and DH and one of the DSs got obsessed and became quite competitive. The TB didn’t get a look in for weeks!

Also how about cookery- last of the soft fruits in the shops so she could make jam for the winter or pickles or marmalade.

Trying out sugar icing shape and flowers and doing some cupcakes

Watercolours or still life drawing with some nice pencils

Starting a journal or diary and decorating the cover

Wood carving

Oh yes, would second wood carving, DD was into that a few years back, she made some lovely things (little wooden mushrooms, flowers, all sorts). She was given a book about green wood whittling & some knives for a birthday. Only downside was a lot of wood shavings everywhere...

Oh yes, knitting or crochet are great ones, loads of free patterns online and contemporary kits about. And another vote for needle felting, you do have to watch your fingers a bit but if she's used to handling a needle for cross stitch she should be fine! There was a unicorn kit in Hobbycraft recently.

My DD made a pom pom string like this for a tent:

except she chose different colours to this

Deco patch or quilting. Both of those are great fun and easy to pick up. There are loads of you tube tutorials. X

My niece loves the adult paint by numbers. And the results are really impressive.

Diamond painting looks interesting too. Sort of grown up sticky mosaics Grin

Hawthorn Handmade do some lovely simple embroidery kits. They include everything you need, including stitch instructions, and the designs are modern and contemporary, and not old lady-

Or as a completely left field idea - how about lock picking? There are some good beginner sets on amazon, and loads of YouTube tutorials.

ReapersHowler · 22/08/2019 20:29

Polymer clay? She can make figurines or kawaii charms there's loads of tutorials on youtube and once it's baked its incredibly durable.

My daughter loves doing this model room, it’s really intricate and kept her entertained for hours. She is younger than your DD (a mature 11) but it might be one your DAd enjoys too.

Fabulousinmyforties · 22/08/2019 20:53

Lol it might be one your DD enjoys, not your dad! Smile

CherrySocks · 22/08/2019 21:26

What is lock picking?

CherrySocks · 22/08/2019 21:29

Sorry OP I mean - making jewellery, making cakes, learning to knit, sketching with nice pencils and a nice artists sketch pad, making birthday cards, thank-you cars etc, a photography project.

CherrySocks · 22/08/2019 21:30

Thank-you cards. Not thank-you cars.

beetleaugust · 22/08/2019 21:32

Rock painting - it's really therapeutic and there is a lot of ideas on Instagram and Pinterest.

You probably have a local rock painting group on fb too if you hide them with a message on back people post they find them and it's kind of cool.

LeithWalk · 22/08/2019 21:51

One of mine made mastered an electric sewing machine, sourced my old jeans and made denim cushions for his bedroom.

Ligresa · 22/08/2019 22:18
