Has the mw seen it? Have you been swabbed?

Arlw · 22/08/2019 17:01

I told her but she said when she did the sweep she could feel the bag of water. I dont know what to do.

Just get some rest. Sounds like things may start happening soon

Could have been your hind waters maybe op!

I been counting the days down to my.due date and nothing.

Hardly anyone delivers on their due date unfortunately. A trip to the pub seemed to kickstart mine.

IncredibleSulk · 22/08/2019 17:55

OP you need to call your local triage and inform them of this, they will advise you to go in for a check to confirm whether your waters have gone. Whether the midwife could feel membranes or not is totally irrelevant as you could have a hindwater leak. If your waters have gone for over 24 hours before baby being born the risk of infection is greater.

coffeeforone · 22/08/2019 18:20

Yes. With both my pregnancies my waters 'broke/leaked' before I went into labour. Ring the maternity/labour ward and tell them you think your waters have broken and when. They should test it as if they have broken you should really be induced within 24 hours due to risk of infection. Happened with both of my DC.

WellVersedInEtiquette · 22/08/2019 22:01

Your body is working away getting things in place for when it does get going. X

Crunchymum · 22/08/2019 23:19

You've had 3 sweeps, prior to the EDD?

aurynne · 23/08/2019 03:07

Midwife here. Why on Earth would you have 3 stretch and sweeps when you are just at your due date? It's a very intrusive intervention which will do nothing unless your body was already almost about to labour by itself. It increases the chance of infection. It irritates your cervix and increases the chance of incoordinate contractions and longer latent phases. What exactly is the hurry?

IncredibleSulk · 23/08/2019 05:48

@aurynne

Surely you’re not unfamiliar with sweeps in the run up to induction? If OP has IOL booked at term then sweeps prior to this is understandable. And clearly if the MW was able to feel membranes then the Bishop score was favourable.

Also, as a MW are you not more concerned about the potential prolonged SROM?

EvadeHer · 23/08/2019 05:53

Simmer down @aurynne

OP isn't down the pub offering everyone a shot at her cervix. As a midwife you're probably aware that the care and advice women receive varies greatly depending on the competence of her midwife and the women's personal situation.

OP - I'd ask to be seen. My midwife was an absolute cowboy and we ended up with sepsis which she missed despite us being a huge risk and having textbook presentation. If you had a leak you should get checked.

Hope everything goes okay for you and baby is here safe soon.

aurynne · 23/08/2019 06:04

PROM is much more likely with multiple sweeps (accidentally breaking the membranes before labour is one of the risks of this procedure), and also the risk on infection with PROM increases with every sweep, as every time you do one you move the bacteria up to the cervix from the low vagina. If the OP's midwife was concerned about PROM then not doing sweeps would be a great option.

Yes, I am a bit touchy about sweeps as they have become an intervention that is sold as "bringing forward labour with no risks" and hey are nothing like.

EvadeHer · 23/08/2019 06:19

If the OP's midwife was concerned about PROM

She isn't though. OP is. It appears to be the reason she posted and the responses suggest she gets checked elsewhere. "Why on earth..." is just sanctimonious shite.

Maybe look to make changes to how midwives work through a professional body rather than having a pop at pregnant women posting in a chat forum.

IncredibleSulk · 23/08/2019 06:34

@aurynne the OPs MW was not (wrongly, given what OP reports) concerned about SROM. However, a gush and a subsequent wet pad 100% warrants a SROM check in triage at the least.

Yes of course there are risks to any intervention. It’s unclear from the OP why she has had early sweeps but assuming that this is prior to a booked IOL then I don’t see what your alternative is? No MW that I know would give sweeps prior to post dates unless clinically indicated and as always, OP should have been told of the risks/benefits and made an informed decision. The tone of your post does not facilitate informed decision making, it’s actually scaremongering.
