Cow and gate powdered milk

Hi all. New mum here baby is two weeks tomorrow. We have been using the pre made cow and gate milk since we left hospital but now have tubs of the cow and gate powder. It says to boil the kettle and make as needed... does anyone pre make the water during the day and just add the formula before the feed... babies don’t want to wait 30 mins for the water to cool they want feeding now lol. Advice please?? My friend said she boiled enough bottles in the morning and added the formula before the feed... yet my sister in law says you need to do it all there and the meaning a long 30 min wait for water to cool? Confused

The powder needs to be added to water over 70 degrees to kill bacteria in the formula. You could make a few up at a time with hot water and store in the fridge but the optimal way is to make up as you need them

Ok so if I add the powder and put in the fridge after boiling the water that would be ok? Sorry for the stupid questions...

It is one method you could use. It is safer than making up a bottle with water that is not hot enough.

The official advice is to make up as needed. I used to make up bottles of boiled water and leave them to cool then just add formula when needed. This was also very easy when out and about because I just added pre-measured formula to the boiled water. I didn’t make up full/complete bottles and leave them in the fridge because I was worried about keeping them cool enough when I went out for the day. Dc 1 was happy to drink it room temperature, dc2 liked it warm so I used to blast it in the microwave then give it a good shake. I’m aware that this is not the ‘right’ way to do things, but neither of my dc became ill from doing it this way and it worked for me. If you’re going to deviate from the official advice you need to choose whichever alternative method you are happiest with.

Its still safer to make up with hot water and store rather than make up with room temperature water. I did use the room temperature method with my 2 but that was 13 and 15 years ago now and advice changes. For out and about I used ready made milk

Either perfect prep machine or make up with boiling water as per instructions, flash cool in ice cold water and straight into the fridge at home. Then warm as necessary in hot water jug or with a bottle warmer. I wouldn't leave them in the fridge for more than 12 hours though. And ready made formula is easiest when out and about.

I used to do a 'DIY' version of perfect prep after ours broke...

Boil and cool a big flask of water in the morning, store in the fridge. Then, if I was making a 6oz bottle I would put 6 scoops of the powder into to the bottle, add 2ozs of just boiled water, lid on and shake. Then add 4oz's of pre-boiled cool water, which usually makes it a drinkable temp.
