Which pocket money app? Nimbl, Rooster, GoHenry, Osper?

I've got a 10.5 year old & 6 year old who are keen to manage their own pocket money in a technology way.

Their pocket money is £3-5 a week & is linked to chores, so I'd like an app, bank card, something interactive.

Was thinking about GoHenry but it seems costly in proportion to their small amount of pocket money.

Osper is slightly less - but not by much.

So does anyone use Nimbl or Rooster?

Or anything else?

For the older one, I would wait six months then let them open his own bank account with a proper debit card and phone app.

Thanks! He's absolutely chomping at the bit to have something now - not sure if I can hold him off till December!

All it means is a delay of a few weeks until he is distracted by school going back, then oops no time/forgot in half term then all the fuss of christmas :)

Maybe he would be less keen if he had to pay the fee himself? £2/3 a month in fees is insane for accounts that only ever have a few quid going through them.

Makes no sense at all when he could just use a free young person's bank account, but I suppose it would be an important lesson in learning about spending money on things that are worthwhile and how there's always a big company keen to take his money off him.

I'd tell him he can have a free account when he's 11 or pay the fee himself to have the app account now.

As always, Moneysavingexpert has produced a useful article about what is available and the pros and cons.

Thanks all.

It looks like Rooster is the best value for money (£15 a year for both kids).

I think I'll start using the free app & see if that will hold his attention enough till his birthday in December.

We've been back at school for a week already (ShockScotland).

My boys have nimbl. I will be changing it to a bank account as its going groin £15 a year each to £3.50? A month each

My 12 and 9 year olds have Nimbl cards. I don’t mind the fees at the moment. Top ups, transfers and payments appear instantly and you can restrict how and where the cards are used. It teaches them how to manage simple savings and their pocket money (when they earn it!)
Older DC will progress to a bank ac in a year or so

DS had a GoHenry card which was great but the fee was silly. After a year I just opened a Monzo account in my name for him- free- dead easy to use, he loves the app and the separate savings pots (same as Go Henry)

I waited till my son was 11 and then opened a bank account which has online banking and he can use Apple Pay on his ancient I phone , this account can grow with him.
Unfortunately a lot of these child friendly apps/accounts charge a fee
