Are you losing water at work? We have no drinking water now! Anyone else affected?

Are they removing drinkable water or cups? I work in the private sector and you can no longer wander up to a water cooler and get a cup, paper or plastic. But you can fill your own bottle up.

Normandeeside · 21/08/2019 22:23

They are removing the tanks and cups! We did fill our bottles too. They have said the tap water is drinkable but it's mixer taps so all hot water. It's also cloudy Confused

We've never had it.. Always been good old tap water. It's always slightly warm Shock

catmum2019 · 21/08/2019 22:40

Was an inpatient at southern maternity last week and they didn't have any big tanks with cups, I asked and they told me they been removed due to contamination ?

DollyDaisyMayMight · 21/08/2019 22:49

What do you give your patients?

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/08/2019 22:51

I've always drunk the tap water as a patient at QEUH, didn't occur to me not to.

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 06:56

Dolly we have been told to give tap water but it is warm/hot, not pleasant.

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 06:57

Yes, removed due to contamination.

If you run the tap for a while I'm sure it would be fine? There's not any need for bottled water in Scotland.

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 07:12

It gets hotter if you run it.

OP posts:
mumguiltrearingitshead · 22/08/2019 07:13

It gets hotter even when turned to the cold side? Are all the taps the same and have you tried turning it to the opposite side incase its a plumbing issue?

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 07:16

It's a sensor that turns them on, all mixer taps for hand washing!

OP posts:
mumguiltrearingitshead · 22/08/2019 07:18

Have you raised with management that there's no cold drinking water? If I were you I'd fill a bottle at the start of my shift and put it in a fridge.
It's really odd that the hospital would be happy giving warm water to patients to drink though.
If it's just not freezing (like out of a cooler) rather than actually warm then I think you're being too fussy sorry.

MrsAmaretto · 22/08/2019 07:40

There’s no need for water coolers - we voluntarily gave ours up as part of a budget cutting exercise when we discovered how expensive they were. You should speak to someone on your staff wellbeing committee or union rep if you can’t turn on a cold tap to access water, as I agree that warm water is unpleasant. But I’m assuming that patients on the wards get jugs filled with cold water so there must be a cold water supply.

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 07:40

It's actually hot not warm!! We have no fridge, handwashing sinks in a clinical area only. Management are fighting it too but because it's trustwide it's a problem.

OP posts:
Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 07:42

No facility for patients they will be drinking hot water. Unlike general hospitals we have no kitchen areas.

OP posts:
mumguiltrearingitshead · 22/08/2019 07:45

It's completely unreasonable to expect staff and patients to drink hot water.
Where do you put your lunch btw? I work in Glasgow public sector too, our staff facilities are awful but at least we have fridges.
I'm due an operation soon, if they give me hot / warm water to drink I'll be complaining.

Normandeeside · 22/08/2019 07:49

My lunch is kept in my locker, IV bought ice pack things to keep it cool, we eat in staff canteen we are allowed to take own lunches in there. I am hoping for patient complaints as it will help.

Well that is really poor for staff and patients. All they need to do is put in drinking taps and ffs if Scottish water can put public fountains in then so can a large employer. I’d speak to your union and the Patient people (forgot their name due to wine) about your concerns for the wellbeing of patients. Hope you get something.

ParkheadParadise · 24/08/2019 21:00

I was in QEUH this week, at the x-ray department. The elderly couple sitting next to me were very knowledgeable all about the water coolers getting done away with. She kept filling cups up for dd( give this to your wean hen)
She wet herself on the way home.😐
