I think a cat is stuck between two walls, what do I do?

I live in a block of flats and have just come home to hear continuous meowing from a very narrow gap between two walls. I’ve looked with the torch on my phone and the cat is about five feet down this gap. I don’t know if it’s actually stuck but it’s meowing constantly and I’m not sure who to call! Is it the RSPCA or does anyone know otherwise please? I will obviously feel stupid if it’s not actually stuck but I can’t take the risk and just leave the poor thing Sad

I've always believed that the fire service rescued cats but I am a bit scatty Grin

Hope the poor kitty is ok.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 21/08/2019 21:15

How is the kitty? Have you tried to entice it out?

slipperywhensparticus · 21/08/2019 21:15

Dangle a dressing gown belt mine have run off with three of them we only own four

Cats Protection are good too.

My cat did this but it was between 2 wooden fences. I put an open cat food pouch on the top and she climbed up.

IamtheOA · 21/08/2019 21:18

Oh no!
How on earth did it get in? Poor thing!

swapsicles · 21/08/2019 21:21

Dressing gown cord or a towel might help, the cat can get a good grip on them and hopefully rescue itself.

I had to come up to my flat to plug my phone in while I waited in the queue as was on 2%, just ran down to check on it now and it turned around in the gap and ran down to the other side so is clearly not stuck Grin the gap is only about 4 inches wide!! But it was clearly just messing with me. Thankfully was still in queue to RSPCA so have not wasted their time and made an idiot out of myself. What a non-event, sorry everyone!

Can you put something down to let it climb up? Preferably something solid like a plank of wood, even vertical it’s easier than a rope or belt. Have a look for local rescue groups on Facebook, you can usually find them on local lost and found pages, they’re more helpful than the RSPCA.

I assume it’s not just a plasterboard wall you can take down yourself? Or is it directly below another flat? In which case even if it isn’t theirs you might be able to access it that way

Great x post Smile

The cat is fine, it was just pranking me 🙄 at least I have more of an idea of what to do in an actual cat-related emergency now!

Cats are little buggers. One of mine meows like her little heart is breaking, only to find that she's behind a shed with about a foot of space to get out in! But she meows until you go and get her Hmm. Then she buggers off without so much as a thank you.

Lebou · 21/08/2019 21:48

@Rockbird yes they are!!

Grin cats the little buggers

PastelPotential · 21/08/2019 21:56

This happened to us once. The cat, assuming a stray, had fallen down a sort of cavity wall between us and our neighbours. I phoned Cats Protection who told me to phone the Fire Service, who sent their least eye candy crew (I was a disappointed girl, I can tell you) who somewhere fished the poor thing out and I took it to the vets.

Sadly the cat was very sickly (probably why it lost its balance) and had to be pts.

50shadesofblackclothing · 21/08/2019 21:59

Usually if cats can get in they can get out unless you can see a point it might have fallen from. Ours used to get in between the tiny gap between the cooker and cupboards, dm and I were in fits of 'move it out! Save the cat' and my df would just say 'It got in, it can get out, it's a cat'. Low and behold 10 minutes later the cat would TURN ROUND, not just figure out how to reverse out and come out face first still yowling at us because there was a morsel that'd dropped down and under that it was after. I've since had 2 cats do similar!
