No cook camping meals

Last minute camping trip planned for this weekend. Will eat out at least once a day but are not allowed open fires so can’t cook anything/boil water.
looking for ideas for lunch that don’t require cooking or refrigeration. We’re all vegetarian and so far all I can come up with is cheese & crackers and lots of cereal bars/crisps.

No from what I gather your not allowed any cooking equipment. I asked about a camping stove and was told as we’re camping in a protected area we cant have anything that’s a fire risk. Last time I let do book a campsite

Wraps with precooked chicken, cheese and chopped veg and sweet chill sauce.

Elllicam · 21/08/2019 19:50

Or Quorn chicken instead sorry I missed that you were vegetarian.

That's silly OP, I'd just take a little stove anyway.

  • Tuna mayo sandwiches (get mayo sachets so u don’t need fridge)
  • Greek salad without the feta cheese if you don’t have cooler.
  • mash potato with gravy (both made from granules) and kept in water for a while longer, it tastes fine.
  • baked beans. Sausage cans
  • hummus cans (from Middle Eastern shops), they don’t need fridges.
  • fruits and veggies (banana/carrots/ apples...)
  • powdered milk with cereal.

Many sites have no open fire policies but so as your heat/cooking source is elevated it's usually acceptable. I'd check again OP or check some reviews online to see what others have done. How do they suggest people make a cuppa?!

IABUQueen · 21/08/2019 19:55

Peanut butter and jelly, with toast.

slingthegin · 21/08/2019 19:55

*so long as

IABUQueen · 21/08/2019 19:58

Protein bars and flap jacks and cereal bars. Lots and lots.

Dried fruits and veggies.

Basically you need to rely on lots of snacking for your lunches until dinner time

IABUQueen · 21/08/2019 20:02

Oh just realised you are vegetarians. Forget the tuna and sausages. :D.

I heard instant noodles can become edible if kept in normal temperature water for a while longer than recommended. Haven’t tried though.

Cuppa soup might taste alright if kept in water for half an hour even with it heating.

bigbluebus · 21/08/2019 21:14

Not being able to use a camping stove sounds a little unusual - it is normally just a ban on BBQ's and open fires/fire pits as they are more likely to cause a fire due to sparks from the fuel. I would double check that butane/calor gaz stoves are included in the ban.

How about taking tortilla wraps and/or pitta bread and making rustic (mashed) hummus from tins of chick peas. You can also buy ready made long life pasta pots although not sure what is available for vegetarians - but I have eaten tuna ones which are palatable.

fruitpastille · 21/08/2019 21:16

Camping without a cup of tea?!!!

SapatSea · 21/08/2019 21:30

You can get small kettles that plug into the car lighter socket (12v) for around £10. You could heat water that way for drinks or to make instant porridge pots, flavored noodles etc
