Cranberry Juice DRINK for UTI?

Benefitofthedoubt · 21/08/2019 14:56

DH went out for cranberry juice (uti, dr won’t see for me three days 😩) and came back with a juice drink with water and sugar in it. Will it work it should he go out again.

It’s M&S and says 300 cranberries in every carton (1 litre).

Water, water and more water.

I used to get uti’s fairly frequently. Then i got one and was unable to see the gp, so i drank water. A lot of water.

It actually cleared up way quicker than with ab’s, and i’ve not had an attack since.

It’s St Thomas’ in London, can’t find any information about walk in, just A&E. Then it lists a private one (which is the one DH went to ) and a college one which is for staff and students only, then one that’s a bit too far for me to get to tonight.

The system is ridiculous.

Going to drink loads of water and see tomorrow. I’ve already had loads and the cranberry drink and I’m feeling a lot better. Not shivering any more. Thanks all.

Try over the counter stuff before your start seeing doctors.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 21/08/2019 16:29

You can go to Superdrug online, purchase antibiotics with an online consultation and collect them from your nearest branch.
Doctors are shit at treating UTIs

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 21/08/2019 16:31

If you're shivering then you have an infection and cranberry and water isn't going to cure it. Get antibiotics in you ASAP

MaxNormal · 21/08/2019 16:32

You can buy pure unsweetened cranberry juice from Amazon or a health food shop.

Also try D Mannose. If it's an e coli infection as most UTIs are it will possibly shift it.
I agree with drinking a lot of water too.

Cranberry juice is one of those things that although there is no actual scientific evidence many people do find it helps. Most juice is a drunk but some contain higher concentrations than others. You could call 111 who can probably get you an appointment at an out of hours. That's what I had to do when I had tonsillitis last and couldn't wait the 4 days til I could get a dr's appointment for the antibiotics

Luxesoap · 21/08/2019 16:43

Water and cranberry juice will not have stopped you shivering but I’m glad you’re feeling better.

Just in case this is helpful in the future, many episodes of cystitis can be avoided in women by making sure you have a wee after sex. It doesn't have to be a big wee. Just squeezing out a few drops does the trick.

Basically women have a design fault (short tubing to the bladder)! Please pass this info on to anyone you know who suffers. It transformed my life.

TDogsInHats · 21/08/2019 16:55

Try adding a small spoonful of bicarb of soda in some juice. It tastes horrible but can bring fairly swift relief from the symptoms. You still might need to see a health care professional though.
Good luck op. Flowers

I stand corrected. Although I've never needed anti b's for 'cystitis', only once for what was a horrendous uti. Is Interstitial cystitis also due to infection, my mum suffers terribly and has been led to believe its due to a short urethra?

Directionless2019 · 21/08/2019 17:48

Could you use the app for PushDoctor and get a private prescription. I got antibiotics from them for a bartholins cyst when I couldn't get a docs appointment before a holiday a year or so ago?

Directionless2019 · 21/08/2019 17:48

Terrible punctuation. Sorry.

Luxesoap · 21/08/2019 17:52

inwood I see a professor who specialises in chronic uti. His research over 37 years has led him to the conclusion that interstitial cystitis does not exist and that the inflammation shown on scans is due to chronic embedded infection. The dipstick and culture tests for uti misses a significant amount of infection and give false negative results leading to many women not being correctly diagnosed with a uti. They are then not treated with antibiotics or given a short course that is ineffective in killing off the infection. They then go on to develop a chronic infection that is repeatedly missed by further tests. A scan or a cystoscopy will show inflammation or further down the line cysts in the bladder lining. These are then likely to be diagnosed as interstitial cystitis or something called cystitis cystica. Both are in this specialists mind just how a chronically infected bladder looks. If your mum is really suffering and is able to pay to see this guy privately he has honestly changed my life. PM me if you want any info about his clinic. He no longer works for the NHS as he’s now semi-retired.

When i used to get UTIs i always had a pack of Azo tablets on hand to get rid of the pain till i could see a GP antibiotics you can buy them on Amazon they work really well but do dye your pee a funny orange colour it means you can drink lots of water and juice to flush out the infection though or sit in a bath of warm water and pee that way sounds gross but when your in pain you don't really care. I used to do that and wash myself and the bath off afterwards

Likethebattle · 21/08/2019 18:10

In Scotland the first port of call for UTI’s is the pharmacy. There are posters in my local surgery saying to see pharmacist first then if it doesn’t clear see the gp.

sueelleker · 21/08/2019 20:56

Luckily I've only had it a couple of times, but I found the sachets worked for me.
