This week is going SO slowly. I’m finding it really tough. Dd is very wobbly and I’m (privately) feeling worried too, but trying to be positive and encouraging. She should be ok, but in my head I’m questioning every decision I’ve made, thinking of all the things I should have done. Argghhhh

Anyone else? Or am I the only one driving myself mad?

Ds needs 4 subjects to get to college on the course he wants, but he missed an awful lot of yr11 due to health stuff so we have no idea how things will go

Wolfiefan · 21/08/2019 23:22

Hoping the health stuff is resolved. I spent a year when DS was a toddler thinking he may die. If he doesn’t do a levels then it really isn’t the end of the world. I’m proud of him and love him to bits. I want my kids to be happy, healthy, loved and loving.
Here’s hoping they’re happy tomorrow. We are going out for dinner come grace 9 or 1s! Wink

Wolfiefan · 21/08/2019 23:23

Grace?
Grace.

MamaGee09 · 21/08/2019 23:30

Good luck everyone!

Also remember that exam grades aren’t the bee all and end all, it doesn’t measure how good a friend your child has been or how polite and respectful they’ve been to their teachers or how kind they have been to that person while out and about, it’s just a snap shot of the last year. , there are no Wrong paths sometimes life just takes some unexpected turns.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/08/2019 09:22

Sitting here waiting for DS to return. Anxious AF.

He's a lovely boy. All sweet and thoughtful. But he had a rough year and I reckon his results may reflect this.

I don't want him to feel sad and disheartened. He deserves better.

Currently questioning every parenting decision I've ever made.

Aaaaaaargh!!

hopeishere · 22/08/2019 09:29

Oh good luck everyone!

ALemonyPea · 22/08/2019 11:19

How did everyone's DC do?

Ds did really well. He got an 8, two 7s, five 6s and a 5. He got two levels higher in two subjects, and one level lower than expected in maths. Still, pretty decent results, and he's off to do A levels, signing up for it tomorrow.

The numbers confuse the hell out of me.

Enko · 22/08/2019 11:22

Dd3 happy with her RE result. Now on for next year for the rest of them and ds A levels. First GCSE day in the Enko household of 4 children that didnt include tears

Enko · 22/08/2019 11:25

@ALemonyPea well done to your ds I find the numbers easier now I have got used to them.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/08/2019 12:06

Ds1 did incredibly well, I am so proud of him. He was predicted very high grades and I spent most of the night worrying the school had set him up to fail and I knew he wouldn't cope well if he hadn't met his and the schools very high expectations. He did slightly better than expected though🎉🎉

Well done to everyone's dc's. It's such a tough time. Brought back lots of memories of me scraping through with 5 c grades. Ds1 did not get his brains from me😊

MaureenSowerbutts · 22/08/2019 12:41

DD did really well, mostly 7s.

She messed up geography but is not fussed, she got more than what she needed to do her a levels. I am so utterly proud of her, she is not up with the top set kids and has worked her socks off so to come out with 7s is amazing.

LewisFan · 22/08/2019 12:51

He did enough but will have to redo maths... he is disappointed though as he got more in his mocks, but that was before his medical stuff.

I think it's almost an anti climax and he doesn't believe the hype from family members that he's done "so well" ....

He did well. I'm proud. He's off to college and we're out to dinner tonight, so all in all, a good day.

Wolfiefan · 22/08/2019 13:04

Bit of an anti climax here too. Two grade 4. Rest 8-6. It’s just he worked so hard and just has a piece of paper. I’m proud of him and he is off to 6th form. We’re out to dinner too!!

corythatwas · 22/08/2019 14:10

ds is at Reading festival, so expect it will be a few days before I find out how he did at his maths retake

have already had his Sixth Form results which were unexpectedly good (all Distinction and Distinction*)

passing the maths would be a big boost to his confidence though

ALemonyPea · 22/08/2019 16:25

Well done to everyone's DC.

Well done to your DS Lewis.

We are also out tonight, DS's choice.

imip · 22/08/2019 17:13

I’ve received by results today by email as I’ve had day surgery. Very happy I got a 5 in foundation maths because it was a bit of an effort in between working 4 days a week, 4 dc (two with challenging ASD), and voluntary work. I just wondered if you got the one combined score or if you had three? Would someone please let me know and then I’ll go into college to ask? I assume at some point you get a letter outlining all this as at some point. I didn’t complete education in the UK, so it’s all very new to me!

peanutbutterkid · 22/08/2019 21:01

DS got the A in computing that we were he was hoping for. Squee! Very happy with that. :)

Jaffacakebeast · 22/08/2019 21:28

Does anybody else feel these numbers aren’t great, I mean a 7 when a 9 is the highest Doesn’t sound like a great achievement, but that’s an A, many moons ago when I was studying A was the aim and not very common, now it seems to me an A/7 just isn’t celebrated the same way

Wolfiefan · 22/08/2019 21:52

Plus the exams have been made more rigorous. No coursework. Harder content and more of it.

LewisFan · 22/08/2019 22:31

Actually I think the whole numbers thing is the source of the anti climax.... reading a list of numbers is not the same as seeing the letters.

Also how do we know if the 5 he got is the "low b" or "high c" school said it was?!!

With letters, we knew where we stood.

WTF was wrong with letters?!

Wolfiefan · 22/08/2019 23:07

They couldn’t create an A** I suppose. Plus the government does like to completely overhaul (AKA fuck about with) education on a regular basis.

hopeishere · 23/08/2019 06:52

I'm in NI where we still have letters. What surprises me is the grade boundaries - 22% in maths = a 4 and a pass or a C grade. That's shocking. I thought a pass was 40/45 or above.

hopeishere · 23/08/2019 06:53
