Should I go to the G.P.

Sorry this will probably be long.
So, last year I started getting a pain in my left breast that radiates out from behind my nipple. There is also an itch that feels like it’s right inside and no amount of scratching makes it go away. The skin under my breast has gone quite thin and dark. I went to the doctor at the beginning of this year and she told me to come back if I found a lump.
It’s at the point now where wearing a bra is getting too painful and I’m waking up in the night because of the pain. I get that it’s probably nothing serious but I would really like to try to get to the bottom of what it is as it’s starting to have a real impact in my life. Would I be wasting an appointment to go back or do I just live with it?

The other thing I want to discuss is hair loss. Over the past year, I would say my ponytail has more than halved in thickness. My hair is falling out in clumps. Is this also a waste? It’s getting me down.

Generally I just feel really rubbish with no energy. I don’t actually know what I want a Doctor to do...But I’m struggling...

Yes, see your GP. That’s what they’re there for.

LemonAddict · 20/08/2019 19:59

Yes you absolutely should go back... and don’t be fobbed off just because there’s no lump in your breast.

BarbarAnna · 20/08/2019 20:02

I really do think you need to go back. I don’t want to scare you but there is a breast cancer that presents in fairly similar ways. Inflammatory Breast Cancer. I think you need a 2 week referral to be honest. I am not being harsh and in a similar position myself. I got a kick up the bum about it on this forum. Of course it could be other benign conditions but please go back.

You need to see your doctor again.

BarbarAnna · 20/08/2019 20:03

I meant to say presents without a lump. Hence the waiting for a lump is not good advice.

livinglavidavillanelle · 20/08/2019 20:04

Doctor, straight away.

QOD · 20/08/2019 20:05

Dr. You need blood tests and breast screenjng

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 20/08/2019 20:06

Bloody hell! Doctor. For any one of those issues, never mind all of them.

PostNotInHaste · 20/08/2019 20:07

Yes I think at this point you do need to go back and your GP should be doing you a 2 week referral. Which all sounds alarming but much better to be safe than sorry.

Barbar, I’m giving you a firm but gentle kick up the backside. Are you ringing to make an appointment tomorrow?

BarbarAnna · 20/08/2019 20:08

@PostNotInHaste I already had my kick up ty bum. Saw GP and awaiting my 2w referral. But thanks - appreciate it!

PostNotInHaste · 20/08/2019 20:11

Well done, I have my fingers firmly crossed.

Bsmirched · 20/08/2019 20:12

Absolutely go back and get referred to the breast clinic. It most probably is nothing awful but my breast cancer caused pain even though neither of the 2 tumours were able to be felt on examination. I'm really shocked at your doctor's response to be honest.

marmiteloversunite · 20/08/2019 20:16

Go back and ask about Paget's disease. It is very rare as I was told multiple times but ask to go to the breast clinic to get it checked.

Washpot · 20/08/2019 20:50

Thank you for your replies. I will ring in the morning.
I’ve been trying to positively reason with myself (to avoid dwelling on the worst) that it could be hormonal as it’s been going on for so long now that I’d probably be seriously ill if it was anything sinister.

I’ve suffered badly with anxiety in the past snd the doctor asked me about it in the appointment so I wonder if she was thinking it was just me being anxious again. I’m pretty sure it’s not just that. I feel fairly level-headed at the minute and this does not feel like an anxiety symptom.

@BarbarAnna got everything crossed for you Flowers

@Washpot and same to you. Didn’t mean to hijack. Just wanted to pay forward my kick up the bum. The GP thinks my problem is probably hormonal but wants it checked. Everything crossed for you. Cake

marmiteloversunite · 20/08/2019 21:00

Wash pot you know your own body. Don't be fobbed off. Good luck.

SeaToSki · 20/08/2019 21:00

I would go back to the GP and if they wont take you seriously, find a private doctor to get an evaluation from, the private doctor can refer you for scans on the NHS.

Washpot · 20/08/2019 21:00

Not hijacking at all xx thank you.
