London travel advice

We're going to see a west end show in a few days time (eve performance) and are staying at a hotel in Borehamwood. Yes a fair distance away, but so cheap it was worth it!

Our plan is to drive to Barnet and then get the Northern Line into the centre of London. Is this likely to be the easiest/most economic (time and money) way of travelling to the west end?

Ta!

Maybe just get train from borehamwood > st Pancras, then picadilly line to Leicester Square you would be travelling off peak so would be cheaper

Download the citymapper or tfl app for the quickest ways to get around. Bus is cheapest but takes ages. Take the tube - use your contactless card and your journeys will be capped at the daily maximum. Enjoy!

Thanks! I didn't even know Borehamwood was on a mainline Blush

Must download citymapper as heard it mentioned as a good resource a lot.

Just a couple more questions, can I do contactless payment on thameslink? Also does DD need to pay if not? She's 9.

Buy an off peak travel card you can do this via a machine or in person. You will need to get her a child’s ticket.

Have fun!

Contactless is likely cheaper than a paper travel card

£5.60 for an off peak contactless journey from Elstree and Borehamwood to zone 1, with a daily cap of £12.80

georgedawes · 22/08/2019 20:52

OK, will do contactless no problem. When we've been before DD didn't need to pay for contactless on the underground, is this the same for thameslink?

E.g. - here it looks free www.visitlondon.com/traveller-information/getting-around-london/do-kids-need-an-oyster-card

But when I go on Thameslink's website and put 2 adults, 1 child in it charges for 3.
