50th birthday 'games'

rainbowstardrops · 20/08/2019 17:39

So, my DH is 50 very soon and I've invited a few family members to come and celebrate with him on his birthday.
Nothing extravagant but about 12 of us ranging in age from 14 - 80 but most of us 30-50.
Just your standard kind of buffet spread etc but I'm trying to think of fun games or activities to kind of lift the atmosphere. Obviously nothing too much because the oldies wouldn't join in (like Pie Face) but nothing dull as dish water either. And nothing too rude because of the 14 yr old - although she does like what's my meme ( don't think the oldies will appreciate that!)
Can anyone help turn this into something fun because I'm struggling!

Newmarket with chocolate coins as currency?

rainbowstardrops · 20/08/2019 18:03

That's a good idea! Used to play this on Nee Year's Eve with my family!
Anything kind of less structured?
We had whistle crackers a few years ago (you had to whistle a song) but we've kind of done that now .....

Just got Cranium Conga second hand (not sure if you would be able to get a new version) but this might be a good bet. You have to write down in a covered area an answer to what you are thinking when given a category on a card (e.g. 'I can't understand why some people like to eat (blank'); or 'Estimate how many beds you have slept in since January') then others have to guess the hidden answer in a quick-fire way that is determined by a random timer. Quite hard to explain, but enjoying it.

rainbowstardrops · 22/08/2019 15:53

Thanks* @Ormally* I'll definitely have a look at that!
I'm also kind of looking for fun games like a take on bingo, pin the tail on the donkey (age related), whistles or bells name that tune ....... that kind of thing. Can't find anything so far that will be fun for teens/30-50 year olds and 80 year olds!
This is so difficult!

Oh gosh...how could I have forgotten 'Bring Me?' (Older name was, I think, 'Persian Market').
Split into 2 teams, 3 at a push, with a mix of ages (I recommend that the youngest be the 'runners').
You as the caller stand in the middle. You have a stock of something, stickers even, to mark points. Then ask people to 'bring you' something that people are likely to be able to come up with, but that will probably not be easy to get hold of, e.g. (best memorable ones I have seen:)
-A shoelace
-A mobile phone still playing a ringtone
-A black bra
-A key not on a keyring
-A coin which should be unusual (eg a special 50p or non-UK coin)
-A digital and an analogue watch
-A photo of someone in the family
-Gold or silver jewellery
-Something beginning with...
Etc...
Stick a sticker on the winning runner's top each time. Winning team is the one with the most stickers.
I think I have actually wet myself playing this in the past.

I always like a “ how well do you know “ the person quiz.

You can do Heads or Tails ( stand up and put hands on head or bottom ) with a version of the quiz instead of coin tossing.

Neolara · 22/08/2019 18:56

I had a quiz, "how well do you know Neolara's friends". I'd written questions about each guest and their connection to me. Eg. Who has saved Neolara's life? Who put Neolara off monopoly? etc. It seemed to go down very well and got everyone talking to each other.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/08/2019 19:00

SIL recently made a quiz for MIL's 60th - one round was name the pictured celeb the same age, another was guess which from a list of celebs were older and which younger than MIL. And Name That Tune for records that had been number one on MIL's birthday over the years.

Penny up the bum

Divide into two teams
Put two buckets (or pots) at other end of room
Each team member has to transport a penny from one end of room and drop it into bucket by keeping it in between their clothed bum cheeks. It is very funny to see different ways people walk to transport the penny. If it drops before the bucket they have to start again.
First team to complete wins.

@Ormally that's a good shout and we played something similar at Christmas. I'm not sure I want my extended family rummaging around my house though! 🤣

@Nothingcomesforfree and @Neolara I've been giving this idea some thought and I really like it. Thanks!

@Celeriacacaca 🤣 I'm not sure I can picture my nearly 80 year old dad playing that but you never know!

I would hate this! Do your family definitely like that sort of games? I know some do - nutters.
Are you musical, maybe a karaoke?

SummerintoAutumn · 23/08/2019 07:38

The Crazy Naming Game.... everyone puts say 10 names into a hat... famous or otherwise.
Split into teams... have a minute to describe the person on the paper.
Mix teams so different generations are mixed up.

Also - Are You a Werewolf? - google instructions! Very popular here.

scazlackabumdiyay · 23/08/2019 07:39

We play lots of games when we get together. Our ages range from 8 - 75. The cornflakes box game is fab, get an empty cereal box and take it in turns to pick it up with your teeth. Each time you pick it up you tear s big off. The box gets smaller and harder to pick up. Keep going until no one can pick it up any more.
The after eight game is another favourite. We do it in threes, place an after eight on your forehead and it had to be moved into the mouth with touching it.

SummerintoAutumn · 23/08/2019 07:39

Sorry should have said - have a minute to describe as many as possible.

BananaBooBoo · 23/08/2019 07:56

We played 'game off' at Christmas and it went down well with teens and oldies!. Buy off Amazon for a couple of pounds.

FiveLittlePigs · 23/08/2019 07:59

Hope your husband likes those sort of games at his birthday celebration. It would have me heading straight for the washing up to get out of the enforced fun plus any teenager will be cringing.

FiveLittlePigs · 23/08/2019 08:01

Can't find anything so far that will be fun for teens/30-50 year olds and 80 year olds!
This is so difficult

Now I really wonder why. 🧐
