Brain absolutely not with it today but she’s a relatively new friend so didn’t want to cancel but I’ve managed to forget to buy a dessert!

I’ve got a small Lidl and a v limited Tesco metro close by but no time to go anywhere else (I’ll have about 5mins to grab something as I also forgot what time she was coming!)

What can I get that requires v little prep and time?!

Strawberries, cream, meringue nests- Eton mess

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2019 17:00

Good ice cream and good coffee

Natural yoghurt, lemon curd, a lemon, raspberries and nice biscuits for dipping

Waffles80 · 20/08/2019 17:01

Eton mess is super easy.

Less delicious but easier still - natural yoghurt, honey, frozen red berries. Blend together with a stick blender and refreeze into a sort-of sorbet.

Melted chocolate with fruit to dip into.

Ice cream with something or other.

Really good ice cream with fresh raspberries and candied nuts. (So easy - just dissolve a tablespoon of sugar in a tablespoon or two of water - add a drop of vanilla or almond flavouring if you like. Put in a shallow frying pan, add nuts and stir and stir until the liquid has evaporated. Shake out onto greaseproof paper.

You can make your own ice cream too if you buy frozen berries. Whip up some double cream with some vanilla essence and icing sugar then put it in the blender with frozen berries. Serve immediately with candied nuts. Whole lot takes about 15-20 mins including the nuts and looks like you spent hours.

I've done baked Alaska with the contents of a small lidl while hungover once.

Sponge cake, tinned fruit, ice cream and eggs for meringue

Gottoloveabagel · 20/08/2019 17:36

I made this with frozen raspberries and it went down very well!!

Lemon posset here:

Just buy the shortbread or other biscuits.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 20/08/2019 17:41

Decent chocolate, the Lidl stuff in the cardboard wrapper is very nice. I never do desserts!

Wilma55 · 20/08/2019 17:41

Box of posh chocolates. Cheese board.

MyNewBearTotoro · 20/08/2019 17:45

I’d look for something ready made.

Gu puddings always go down well and are a good treat. Otherwise something like a cheesecake, profiteroles etc are usually available even in small Tesco stores.

Biancadelrioisback · 20/08/2019 17:46

I was going to say cheese board too.

Or grab some cookie dough and some ice cream and make ice cream sandwiches

Biancadelrioisback · 20/08/2019 17:47

Or build your own sundae

Biancadelrioisback · 20/08/2019 17:47

Decorate your own pancake/waffle?

karmakameleon · 20/08/2019 17:47

At this time of year I’d simply do strawberries and cream.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 20/08/2019 17:49

Cheese for definite.

HeronLanyon · 20/08/2019 17:52

Cheese and grapes
Strawberries and cream
Watermelon and mint with ginger snaps or similar.
Mango with some whipped cream with some kind of sprinkled biscuit in little pots.
Great ice-cream with fruit or biscuits whizzed in.
Or just grapes which is all I’d want after dinner (no real sweet tooth)
Good luck op. Have fun.

Bouledeneige · 20/08/2019 17:57

Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries covered by sweetened Greek yoghurt. Then add a covering of brown sugar and quickly grill to create a brulee topping.

Or grilled halved peaches with vanilla ice cream.

LBOCS2 · 20/08/2019 18:02

Frozen berries, with a warm white chocolate sauce. Chuck the frozen berries in bowls, make a sauce by breaking white chocolate into a jug, covering with double cream and then microwaving in 10 sec blasts until melted. Pour the chocolate sauce over while warm. Delicious.

Drum2018 · 20/08/2019 18:04

Just buy ice creams - magnum, cornetto or such like. There isn't even need for a desert.

owlonabike · 20/08/2019 18:11

Good vanilla ice cream with Tia Maria or hot espresso or a liqueur poured over it. Biscotti or similar to accompany.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/08/2019 23:30

Thank you all! Went for the meringue/cream fruit combo which went down a storm but definitely stealing some ideas for the next time I forget Grin
