If you're on holiday right now...

...what are you really yearning to get home and do?

We're on day 10 of 16 days touring in a small motorhome/camper, and once I get home to my own bed and bathroom I'm going to;

  1. Soak my poor feet and set about them with a callus knife, footfile and a vat of moisturiser
  2. Defuzz my hairy body and redo all my nails
  3. Starfish in a clean king size bed
  4. Order all the things from Amazon (they must think I'm dead)
  5. Eat a normal meal with roughage because IBS is less of a problem when you're not shitting in a too-tall bucket in a cupboard.

My DH knows little of this, he thinks me living on toasted cheese sandwiches for a fortnight is because I'm "fussy". What are you fervently planning to do when you finally fall blissfully back indoors at home, apart from the washing?

I’m not on holiday but I am laughing at your list, especially no4 Grin

I always miss my amazing shower at home and being able to swing a big door open on a fully stocked fridge.

Vesperia · 20/08/2019 16:49

lol - currently on a boating holiday & can't wait to come back to a normal bed, have a shower in a normal sized bathroom & go to the toilet without having to pump the flush until it goes away Grin

I am having a lovely time though

PippaPug · 20/08/2019 16:51

I was on honeymoon last week and I wanted to come back home as I was very excited to have a early scan to see our baby 💖 didn’t tell my husband but I think he could tell!

glenthebattleostrich · 20/08/2019 16:52

Have a long hot bath, with lovely bath salts

Stop opening the wine at 4pm!

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 16:54

GatoFofo oh don't get me started on the stupid camper fridge, terrible bloody design! Can't wait for normality.

Vesperia I have enjoyed this holiday for sure, but yeah chemical toilets are a nightmare. Yesterday I had an IBS attack due to a bloody kitkat induced migraine, so the bogs in Costa and Tesco's in Inverness saw a lot of my arse THAT day I can tell you.

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 16:56

PippaPug how lovely, congratulations!

glenthebattleostrich sadly I am also planning on cutting out sugar and doing something significant about my weight when we get home. The photos are helping to motivate me, I look like a manatee.*

*totally stolen this from another poster, but the description is so apt I have recycled it.

See my friends,

Go running with people.

I'm 10 days into 16 days in France. It's beautiful weather...my teenagers haven't wanted to do a single thing and I'm bored of being on my own.

I think this is the last time I take them away. Next year I'll be going with friends.

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 16:59

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat I hope the self reorganisation is successful! Tan pah, we've been in Scotland so I'm more pasty than when we left the South east. Wink

days touring in a small motorhome/camper

Sorry but that sounds like my holiday hell.

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 17:01

Curiousmum69 running, hmm interesting. Despite being 4 stone overweight with chronic foot pain and exercise induced migraines, I still harbour a desire to be a runner. Wonder if there's any hope for me...another thread maybe!

KatherineJaneway if you'd told me 20 years ago that I would ever even consider this, I'd have laughed in your face. It's been a compromise over 20 years of marriage, this vs camping in a tent. That really is hell, a camper is marginally more civilised and at least we can go to some very beautiful and remote places. And it makes DH happy.

This made me laugh. Just returned from our campervan holiday. The luxury of not having to wade to the loo block (especially in the small hours) sans wellies and waterproofs (thank you British Summer) was one of the many things I was looking forward to on my return, and if of course the loud mechanical closing of the van door then wakes up sleeping DC, the exercise is then repeated when they decide they need the loo too.

Lindormilk · 20/08/2019 17:10

Recently went to London and I couldn’t wait to get home. Too much noise, arrogant people, fast driving to think its a residential area. I was only there for 4 days and it was enough and i will bever go back.

I wanted my own bed in the country. Total peace, zero traffic. And beans on toast instead of eating out.

fleshmarketclose · 20/08/2019 17:18

I've not even gone yet but already I'm looking forward to getting back home. Seven days with all my dc (adult) the exh (friendly terms) and my dear baby grandson makes me long for the peace and quiet of my own home, getting up early and not having company, listening to my audiobook uninterrupted and eating beans on toast because that is what I fancy. It's supposed to be a one off, I will be guaranteeing that it is Grin I love them dearly but enjoy them more when I'm not in the same house as them all for seven days.

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 17:44

Blastandtroph oh thank God we don't have young kids - way too much like hard work! I have a bit of a hygiene "thing" so avoid the shared showers etc as much as possible, but I have very long thick hair and there isn't enough hot water on board for me to wash it properly. So I do have to face a campsite shower on occasion and OMG, the contortions I have to exert to avoid touching a) any part of my anatomy or extremities or b) any part of my towel or clothing on the floor or walls is unbelievable.

The sound of the door isn't so bad, but we have a transverse bed and DH sleeps at the outside edge. So if he wakes before me, he has to clamber over me into a narrow gap and I am thus awakened as he effectively wipes his testcicles across me to get up. Erotic.

Lindormilk yes you are right - much prefer the peace and quiet of a rural area, couldn't live full time in a city. We haven't eaten out much which has made a nice change.

Fleshmarketclose I hope you can still get some enjoyment out of it - but I sympathise!

*Testicles, not testcicles. Bizarre typo.

Going shopping at Waitrose. I am currently in rural Germany, lovely area, in general good weather, great beer and wine but I do miss the grocery section from my supermarket.

It seems Fish Sauce is only available in Asian supermarkets (I am in a meat and potatoes region). .

We don’t cook a lot but the odd easy curry now comes with us from the Blue Dragon kits.

I am also itching to bake.

On th other hand, I enjoy all the chocolates I love from my childhood and can’t get in the UK.

OrchidInTheSun · 20/08/2019 17:50

I'm looking forward to seeing our pets Blush

ragged · 20/08/2019 18:05

Last week on hols (hot place) I rather missed cool weather. :)

Blutopia · 20/08/2019 18:18

I can imagine that reluctantbrit. I'm looking forward to immediate access to a large supermarket as well, not these poxy Spar and Premier shops with zero choice of biscuits.

Orchid our pet is with us, the little psycho, but I miss her when she's away from us for even a night.

Ragged I'm looking forward to predictable weather! The Highlands is anybodys guess.

I've just realised I'm also looking forward to having my eyebrows reshaped - I used this fortnight to grow them out a bit.
