Please remind me to never go on an all inclusive holiday ever again!

Just back from an all inclusive holiday. Thought it would be easy with teens and a nice rest for the grown ups.

I didn’t factor in inconsiderate, greedy ‘Brit’s abroad’ into my holiday calculations.

Sun beds were all gone by 7.30am, made worse by no one occupying them until after lunch. People playing loud, shit music over the top of the hotel music, kids bombing round the pool shouting football chants, people making ‘communal’ plates of food for their table at breakfast and taking all the freshly cooked stuff, then not even bloody eating it!

I’m looking into a private island for next year. Anyone want to come??

Nope..i love all inclusive. Its up to them what they eat. What are you...The food police.?

DarkNoise · 21/08/2019 18:08

I went to AI in Cuba a few years ago (Guardalavaca) and this was not my experience - but it was February (half term) so maybe less busy. I chose AI because I had small kids then and food can be short supply in Cuba. Lovely beach and would go back in a flash! Particularly loved spending time in La Habana.

I don’t enjoy AI but actually chose it for Cuba as it was easier for me to eat from a buffet as I’m veggie. Our hotel was wonderful, we actually went back a few years later. Both trips we’ve also stayed in a Havana for a couple of nights. This is the AI hotel, would totally recommend it www.memoriesresorts.com/resort/memories-jibacoa-resort

Although not family friendly now I see!

petrocellihouse · 21/08/2019 18:17

I went on an all inclusive to Cuba (down the south east part) and have never been so ashamed to be British in all my life. We knew the food was going to be a bit ropey and compared to how the poor Cubana eat and live, we were treated like royalty. But the whole holiday was ruined (and I am not being dramatic when I describe it like that) by pissed up Brits who spent all of their waking hours drinking, fighting (saw one chap punch his wife off her bar stool at 08:00 in the morning) and being so rude to other holiday makers by playing music pool side via big speakers (think rock concert size speakers) and swearing non stop. As our hotel was very remote, there was nothing outside of the complex but we tried our best to get out as much as possible to see all that Cuba had to offer and to appreciate it. The Trip Advisor reviews for the resort were all glowing as well - just goes to show you can't always trust them!

FelicisNox · 21/08/2019 18:19

Me.

I've just got back from an all in holiday to Tunisia. We're used to it but this year was the pits for all the reasons mentioned above.

We had a great time anyway but we will seriously rethink our holidays going forward.

Worst year for this shitty behaviour so far made worse by god awful Russians. Bloody animals.

Bea2010 · 21/08/2019 18:22

Oh dear poor you. I would feel that same and do avoid these holidays. Although now can’t afford them anyway.
A friend’s husband a few years ago got up and put all the ‘saved’ towels in the pool and went back to bed. I’m not sure what the fallout was. However on my Eurocamp holiday this year I found myself laughing out laugh when finding a yellow post-it note stuck in the middle of the lounger asking to ‘please leave’... who does that????
It even happens with the cheap seats. Hotels/holiday poolside signs need to read; saving sun-loungers isn’t permitted.

woodhill · 21/08/2019 18:23

Had a wonderful AI in the canaries this Summer. No dc under 16.would definitely do another

timshelthechoice · 21/08/2019 18:28

MSC or Royal Caribbean cruises all the way! Good security and lovely accommodation. We like to go on their excursions unless we're very close to the ship because there is a danger, if you are not on official excursion the ship will not, cannot, wait for you if you are late.

Dahelle · 21/08/2019 18:29

YANBU not a fan of AI. We have done a few and the behaviour you describe sounded about right. Really enjoyed one in Bulgaria until a load of gobby English people turned up and ruined the atmosphere. You could see the Italians and French and Germans recoil slightly when this family had a Jeremy Kyle style shouting match by the pool.
Just back from two lovely weeks in a small family run b&b eating out every night at local places in Greece! Fantastic!

LadyRannaldini · 21/08/2019 18:37

After a couple of days , I just started to move towels ! Torrent of abuse but I did it several times . Selfish pigs

This is what the management should be doing, we've been in hotels where the pool area is monitored, any sunbeds unoccupied for an hour were cleared.

Boysey45 · 21/08/2019 18:39

Well I've been self catering in Barbados and we nearly starved. There was an electric hob in the room with space for 2 pans only and no oven. The food in supermarkets was really, really expensive and it was all things like hens feet and huge packs of meat which you couldn't cook on a small hob.
If you ate out it would be £50-£60 for a simple dish like spaghetti for 1. We were just eating swiss rolls and biscuits for the week!. I'd only go AI if I was going to the Caribbean again.

LadyRannaldini · 21/08/2019 18:39

If you book through a UK based travel company then the majority of people will be Britons. When we booked through German agencies we found exactly the same problem, except it was largely the German parties.

CalamityJune · 21/08/2019 18:41

Other than the early sunbed punching, I've never come across the behaviour you describe and I've been to most of the usual 'Brits Abroad' type places.

Tryingtoslim · 21/08/2019 18:41

Can I ask where abouts in Cuba please? Been 3 times and never experienced this but might try next time, went to Dominican this year and was bored stiff

maddiemookins16mum · 21/08/2019 18:41

It’s not the hotel, or the board basis etc, it’s the guests. I can guarantee it would be totally different the 2nd week in September (ex holiday rep here) when most kids are back at School.

AJPTaylor · 21/08/2019 18:44

We did AI in Portugal a few years ago. Tbf not many brits and we went right at the end of holidays. I liked not having to budget every penny and not having to think about food. We found going later to eat best.
Just off to kefalonia. Not doing ai as it was something like 35 euro extra a day each to upgrade from bed and breakfast. I figured we can feed ourselves and drink modestly on the 105 euro a day saved and eat out every night.

tabbiemoo · 21/08/2019 18:45

AI would be great if it wasn’t for all the other people which is why we always go self catering. I just can’t cope with all those people and the noise.

icanthelpyou · 21/08/2019 18:50

Having a lovely AI hol in Lanzarote. Mostly keeping out of the buffet restaurant and sticking to the al la carte options. Plenty of sunbeds although they are policed. Walks along the front. Some annoying people but we go sit elsewhere!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 21/08/2019 18:52

Try Club Med - Not that many brits but the ones who are here don’t demonstrate any of the type of behaviour you’ve described. I’m on one now - it’s the 6th club med I’ve tried (we do have other holidays in between!) - I always grab a week with my children and my mum and it’s just so easy here.
Next year they’re opening one in Marbella.
It’s all-inclusive done beautifully.
Don’t give up
See you there.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 21/08/2019 18:55

We went to a lovely AI in Cuba - I think it called costa verde. We liked it but didn’t feel we’d seen Cuba do we went back the following year travelling independently.
Because of the tourist dollar and eating/shopping restrictions, it’s actually impossible to get a feel for the real Cuba - better off in an AI and just soak up the sun.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 21/08/2019 18:56

Btw - that Cuban trip was 10yrs ago - the hotel complex might have changed.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 21/08/2019 19:12

The behaviour of "Brits Abroad" is completely different to other nationalities in the same place. It's like chalk and cheese. Strange how other nationalities can behave respectably and responsibly but the "Brits Abroad" type of people can't.

Just back from first ever half board Spanish pool/beach holiday. Pleasantly surprised at the lack of obnoxious Brits Abroad. Lots of Spanish families and Irish too. Smattering of Dutch families.... They made Brits Abroad look classy. They were rude, loud, drunk and at one point a fight broke out between a dad and his teen son (3pm,witnessed by many young children)

I wasn't a fan of half board as we were right in the middle of local restaurants and the beach so there was loads of choice and the hotel buffet was so samey and bland. We ended up eating breakfast there but eating out the rest of the time.

JaneEB · 21/08/2019 19:13

We went AI to Cuba, again I believe it was Hotel Costa Verde Beach Resort.

It was heaven.

Mind you, it was just the two of us and outside of school holidays. Didn't eat outside of the hotel, but went to the market etc.

It is a poor place and it is a communist place, that means all prices outside the hotel are the same everywhere except for the markets and you cannot barter anywhere except the markets, mind you the prices in the market start so low that you feel guilty trying to knock them down!

We always go AI, and we have never had a problem, even with kids in tow.

Yogagirl123 · 21/08/2019 19:28

Try a villa holiday OP, no queues, private, can’t be beaten IMHO.
