Twin prams

I'm having a nightmare. Twins due early Jan so expected to come late Nov / early Dec so I'll have a school run to do within a fortnight.

We catch the bus to school and walk home unless weather is awful. Catch bus everywhere so needs to fit through the new buses.

So I should get one of those long ones on top of each other. But the bottom kid is basically hidden, I can't see them properly and thry can't see daylight.

So I need a side-by-side one but see above Re bus.

So I should get a double buggy that's suitable from birth. But I hate the idea of my tiny premature twins just being in a buggy that hasn't got the same kind of protection as a pram, which my elder child did.

And the only middle compromise - side by side and narrow is 1k.

Can't find anything second hand.

Any ideas??

I have an out and about double nipper and it is the same width as a wheelchair so fits on a bus no problem.

Needanewname2 · 20/08/2019 17:39

Have you had a look at a Bumbleride Indie Twin? I haven’t taken it on buses but have used it on the tube including escalators. It can lie completely flat for a newborn or you can buy a cot attachment.

They are a US company but do sell on Amazon in the UK.

stucknoue · 20/08/2019 17:42

I didn't have twins but two kids close in age elder diagnosed with Sen while I was pregnant. I used a reclining buggy because it's all I could afford and you couldn't take prams on board busses then (I had to collapse and carry it, a newborn and wrangle an autistic toddler on board). Winter born, worked fine

@inwood is that the Donkey Twin you're referring to?

SleepingStandingUp · 20/08/2019 18:51

What about a single pram and a sling? I don't trust myself not to fall over and hurt the baby, and with a 4 yo on o2 too I think it might just be a bit too much

WellLetsSayHesSquare looked at that. Ut with the car seats it's 1k

Unfortunately double buggies are very expensive. If I could go back I’d have gotten the oyster max when they were small (I’ve experienced every double buggy thanks to my twin mum friends and it’s ideal for small babies and public transport), second hand if possible, then switch to a nipper 360

We had a City Select from birth but it’s a bugger to get up kerbs - nipper is much easier but too big for my hall and takes up our whole boot even with the wheels off

Daisychainsgetbroken · 20/08/2019 19:12

I would put them both in a pram together to start with if you have pram from your ds

Gymbabes · 20/08/2019 19:16

I had a city mini jogger - side by side and suitable from birth and the total width was about 3cm wider than my Graco evo single! I used to get many comments in town when I snuck through a doorway that looked far too narrow for the pushchair! I got it second hand for less than £200 but the downside is that it's forward facing! You can get carry cots but I just bought a newborn insert and used that with cosy toes so it was really snug! I did miss the parent facing element but it's worth a look as everything else about it was ideal! I think there is a britax model that is very similar and was about £300 brand new xx

I have the bugaboo donkey and my partner reluctantly got me this due to the price but I wanted them side by side so I can see them both theirs 11 months difference so eventually I could use it as a single and I’m constantly out shopping and on the bus etc but it is stupidly expensive in price range but if you shop about their is a few in good condition for about 300 ish iv just seen one when I was looking (it’s all I do pram and clothes shop in my spare time lol) but I do see a lot of twins in a normal pram for the first few months. One mum told me that they like to be close it’s as if their in the womb still so I can’t see this been a problem for at least 2-3 months ! Your definitely over thinking you’ll be fine! But for later use I seen someone get on the bus with a joie twin buggy but definitely keep checking for second hand bugaboo or mothercare do payment plans
Hope this helps. We all get Mum worries xx

Thanks ladies, I think twiglets in one to start with and then I might feel happier about losing the Mama facing and hopefully will last us through the worst of winter

I have a beautiful side by side one. I drive but had to get the bus with it once. It didn't fit. It was a double decker arrival bus. I had to take the girls out (the car seats slotted into it) then fold it down and have them on the floor. Ideally you want a tandem (which I was against, but, actually, have found it is much better). It did fit on a single decker arrival bus, strangely. Must have slightly wider aisles. But don't expect any bloody help if you have to dismantle the thing. I really loved my pram as it is from birth, and has car seats, carry cots and also adapts to a double stroller, but it is big and heavy, so Im selling it.
Good luck in your search, I'd get a cheap one for now, as you'll probably end up changing it by the time they're 6 months old. X

I had a baby jogger city mini double when my middle was born. The only side by side double I could find that would also take a bassinet.

Pretty sure it would also fit on a bus, it was slim and I could fit through doors in shopping centres etc no problem.

This is mine

Please

Double pram buggy car seat carry cot,

It's lovely, but awkward on some busses. You can see the dimensions in the photos, so try to go for something narrower, when buying.

SinkGirl · 20/08/2019 20:40

Have a look at the Joolz doubles - they’re inline ones but large, but as they’re inline they should fit on a bus. Gorgeous buggies.

LowriMacD22 · 20/08/2019 20:51

I have twins and a 3 year old, we had an uppa baby vista to start with. We swapped for the mountain buggy duet with a buggy board after about 3 months. It's much better - narrower, easier to 'drive' and has a lower centre of gravity. You can use parent facing carry cots / car seats when they are tiny.

ElizaPancakes · 21/08/2019 08:33

So I should get one of those long ones on top of each other. But the bottom kid is basically hidden, I can't see them properly and thry can't see daylight

You need to get over this. And the not facing you as well. You are going to having to compromise, we had a second hand Phil and Teds for the bus and a side by side mini city jogger for not on the bus (or for when I knew it would be a quiet journey). They didn’t do the pram inserts then, it wasn’t an issue as they fold flat, my babies were tiny when born.

Your babies genuinely don’t care if they don’t get the same pram experience and I think it’s unlikely they’ll care either about facing you, they’ll be asleep 9 times out of 10 until a bit older.

Starrynights86 · 21/08/2019 08:40

Not sure what pram you already have but twins would definitely have fit in the carry cot of my bugaboo cameleon for a couple of months.

I had this one for my twins. I'm selling it all for £500 includes two isofix for the car which was an extra £200 on the original price.

Duckyneedsaclean · 21/08/2019 08:48

Everyone with twins ends up with a mountain buggy duet. It really is the best option and as narrow as many singles. They last amazingly too, so second hand is an option.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/08/2019 16:08

Caught the bus with a lady with one today funimy enough. Her due was was similar to mine but last Yr and she doubled them up in the single pram then got the MountainBuggy duet.she did concede its a little tight in our new buses

DappledThings · 21/08/2019 16:27

I've taken the Mountain Buggy Duet on all types of buses with no problem. Even those little one that are almost minibuses. It's always fitted. And fits through most single doorways as well.

Pantsomime · 21/08/2019 16:34

Another vote for out and about- older second hand ones wider than later versions- we also had city mini double as was lighter to lift & fold up

Emmalouise86xx · 21/08/2019 17:30

I don't have twins but 4 children very close together and I had the icandy peach but didn't like it so sold it and got the bugaboo donkey and it was amazing I live in London and had no issues with getting on public transport at all it's so light to push and I loaded mine up with shopping 1 baby in carrycot 1 toddler in the seat and another child on a buggy board Grin xx
