Do you stay in when you have workmen?

NC as this may be a really stupid question so feel abit embarrassed. We have a landscape gardener coming doing work in our garden next week. We didn't know his exact dates so it's now too late to take time off work all week. If we leave the back gate unlocked on a couple of days is this ok? He won't have access to the house. We do have an outdoor tap and would obviously tell him we won't be in.
I haven't asked him yet as I don't want him to delay doing the job. We have been waiting months. If it is a problem will have to somehow have to work it out with work.

Is there somewhere nearby he can access a toilet, otherwise can't see an issue

You can't access our garden from the street so I would stay in as they would have to go through the house, but I wouldn't if I was in your position.

Let him know upfront though so he can bring his own coffee Grin

No, I had a kitchen fitted recently, including new flooring, I couldn’t be bothered with the mess etc so went on holiday while it was being done.

I wouldn’t have someone entirely unknown so, yes, I’d happily let them just get on.

BigusBumus · 20/08/2019 08:27

I would put a kettle, teabags, biscuits etc in a shed or garage for him so it looks like you're being thoughtful. That kind of thing means a lot to workmen and they tend therefore to do a better job I've found. He will prob wee up a corner of the garden I would've thought but he can go off to poo in the nearest pub loo or whatever. No need for you to be at home.

NoSauce · 20/08/2019 08:49

He will have his own brewing stuff and lunch, he does this for a living so won’t be dependent on people making him drinks. As for the toilet situation he will wee in the garden somewhere if necessary or pop to the nearest public loo or supermarket.

It’s fine to leave him in the garden!

Our gardeners didn't come into the house at all, they had their own kettle etc but they did ask to run a cable through to a socket.

I would double check with him just to make sure. Have you gone over everything you want done? as he may expect to see you if he's got any queries. Access to power may be needed too.
