Prescriptions

Does anyone know if the GP can tell whether a prescription they have written has been filled?

Yes they can. The pharmacy will mark as dispensed on their system, and that message goes back to the GP survey via the NHS Spine ( via EPS to be exact)

GP system I mean.

That is only the case if it is an electronic script- I would be very surprised if a GP bothered to track a prescription.

No it will be any prescription, there will be a record. The pharmacy can’t claim if it isn’t marked as dispensed

SteeperThanHell · 19/08/2019 22:02

If it’s a green script there is no record - even with a bar code the pharmacy does not have to scan it.

SteeperThanHell · 19/08/2019 22:04

And yes I can claim it if it is a green script. Only white tokens are currently claimed electronically and a some bar coded scripts EPS4 scripts in the pilot sites.

My doctor seems to know if I haven't collected mine, and they are standard green prescriptions, no electronic ones here yet.

Green script - no bar code - manually proceeded and sent for payment at the end of the month. GP would not know unless they asked the pharmacy.

Green script with Bar Code (EPS1) - can be treated one of two ways. Either as above or scanned in and info from script extracted from NHS spine. Still manually processed and no dispense notification sent - GP may be able to see that it has been downloaded in a pharmacy, but no confirmation that it has been issued to patient.

White Token (EPS2) Patient nominates a pharmacy ans script is sent electronically. Pharmacy claims when issued to patient and GP could track via EPS tracker.

White Token (EPS3) as above but including CDs.

Green Token (EPS4) - issued to patient without patient nomination. Patient can take to any pharmacy where it is scanned and downloaded - treated in the same way as EPS2 and 3 and could be tracked. This token would not have a handwritten signature like other green scripts.
