What nespresso machine do I want

Or rather DH wants. It's for his birthday god bless him and he's the only regular coffee drinker in the house.

The choice bewilders me.

Watching, as they have a free recycling programme now

The lavazza machines have got good reviews and all their pods will be compostable by September.

I don’t have one but have thought about it before and I would have gone for one of the lavazza machines.

I have used one when away from home and they are so convenient- I just think I do ok with my stovetop espresso maker really.

I can’t quite reconcile myself to the individual pod thing.

Better not to use at all than to recycle pods. I’ve recently bought a filter coffee machine, the added advantage of this machine is that you’re not tied to the types of coffee you can get in pods. I just bought a fab coffee from a local shop that tastes amazing.

None. They're dreadful for the environment, creating a huge amount of waste. Get a stove top coffee pot instead, better coffee, less initial outlay and lower running costs. Coffee tastes better too Grin

We just have the essenza as DH is the only coffee drinker in the house, it's perfect for just one person or occasional guests.

Spinnaret · 19/08/2019 21:24

You don't. Not everywhere has recycling options for the pods, and even if there is in your area, it is still better not to create the waste to need to recycle it. And Nespresso coffee is minging.

Get a bean to cup machine. And then you can choose whatever beans you want. Might be (but not always) a little pricier upfront, but running costs are way lower as beans are so much cheaper than pods.

maidenover · 19/08/2019 21:26

This is the one I got it really is a machine for one or two people so you’d probably need bigger if you make coffee for more than that often

Personally I think basic models have everything you need. Wait for a deal and you can usually get a free or heavily discounted milk frother pot. We’ve had a few and the cheaper ones with the simple mechanisms last forever (our tenant is using the one DH had at university). Coffee out of them is the same regardless.

You can get a free bag and post the pods back to nespresso for recycling if they aren’t recycled in your area.

Springcleanish · 19/08/2019 21:40

I would go for a basic model like an essenza and a separate milk frother if he likes frothy milky drinks. The more expensive machines don’t offer anything better, I much prefer my cheaper separates to my latissimo. You get a range of pods with the machines to select your favourite and aluminium pods can be recycled in store or via collect +.
