Putting green waste in the normal bin

Is it ok to do this? I have a garden waste bin that costs £55 a year but it's every two weeks collection. I've got so many brambles that take years to decompose so I'm putting some in my normal bin as I hardly ever fill that up

The council says not to as it's sent to landfiy, but some green waste in landfill is better than normal waste right?

I chop everything up into 20cm lengths, you fit a lot more in that way.
Then I bag up the overspill and add it when there is space.

This is because waste sent to landfill breaks down anaerobically - that is, without any oxygen present. It is squashed down then capped with soil and clay so it fits into a confined space and doesn't smell. As the rubbish breaks down over time, it emits methane, a greenhouse gas that is 21 times more powerful than CO2.
