My incredibly active and sporty 6 yo dd fell off a climbing frame yesterday and has broken her leg.

She's had it initially plastered and is back on Wednesday for the proper (hopefully lighter) cast.

She's in lots of pain at the moment and terrified of using crutches. She just screams in terror and says it all hurts.

Her dads taken three days this week and I'm off the rest of the holidays with her. (I'm separated from her dad). I'd planned beach days and theme parks next week before this happened, but besides cinema trips I'm now really struggling what else we can do.

Does anyone have any great suggestions to help us?

Thank you. Flowers

Pretty sure you can rent a wheel chair from
the red cross. Could be useful for getting her out of the house even for a while.

Oh bless her.

Reading / writing stories.

Research / do a project on her favourite topic.
Wordsearches.

Take her to visit family.
Knitting / sewing / crochet / patchworking / embroidery
Painting / drawing / colouring
Are penpals still a thing?

Yes you can definitely get a wheelchair although give her a day or so and she’ll be zipping around on those crutches. Does she like any kind of craft activities? Maybe create something she can use when her legs better? Like make a new sports bag that is customised to her? Jigsaws are good, particularly if you use Amazon to find some that reflect a particular interest of hers. Kids science magazines like Whizz Bang POP provide lots of experiments she could do while sat down as well. Cinema. Gaming arcade. Lots you can do!

Hama beads, lego, loom bands? Anything fiddly she might have liked when younger might distract her and be easy so confidence building.

Would a sewing kit interest her? One of those sew your own stuffed toy ones where all the pieces are already cut.
Activity books.
Honestly, if she's in that much pain, a couple of film days. Netflix (free trial if you don't already have it) has some interesting stuff.

A lot of bigger/more touristy beaches have sand friendly wheelchairs that can be hired so beach could still be a possibility with arcades and ice creams etc.

At least the summer is almost over!

I used to love card games and long drives at that age.

Ask a dew friends round for an afternoon of films and popcorn.

Painting by numbers.
Scratch art kits.
Lego.
Have a posh afternoon tea at home.
Our garden centre have some children's shows during the holidays which would be good if she can walk their with crutches, or use a wheelchair. Yours may have something similar. Also nice to go and see the fish, and end up in the cafe for cake.
Trip to the library.
Board games afternoon.

Theatre?

SofiaAmes · 19/08/2019 19:34

You can still do beaches and theme parks with a broken leg. Here in the USA you would get priority entrance to the rides and many of the beaches are accessible by wheelchair. I don't know if it's the same in the UK. Try posting on some local websites (or even here on Mumsnet) to see if someone has a portable/collapsible wheel chair that you can borrow for a few weeks.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/08/2019 19:38

Hire a wheelchair and a walking frame for a bit later when she’s more comfortable and has got used to it a bit more.

I second board games, cards, jigsaws, craft activities.

Presumably she’ll still be in plaster when the new term starts. When you can, check that she can be in school on her own. My son wasn’t allowed in school without one of us with him, until he could get to the toilet unaided. All schools are different I imagine, so it may not be a problem, but check if you can, so you know what to expect.

Do you have any chocolate making places near you? My dd6 went to one and she was seated the whole time and came away with the chocolate she had made.
Pottery painting
Science sets
A movie day in the house
Some museums have wheelchairs you can borrow.
Bowling and just use the ramp
There is still lots to do last summer my dd was in a wheelchair for a lot of it and we just had to adapt things.

Lots of helpful suggestions but I'm pretty sure you can't go on a theme park ride with a broken leg...
Library events, museums, picnic and sitting down games in the garden/park, bus or train journey somewhere and lunch out, sea life centre/aquarium, Cadburys world, zoo/animal park (in wheelchair)
