Anywhere in Scotland (but outside Edinburgh) with a weekly market?

DH and I thinking about moving to Scotland, but love the weekly market we do all our grocery shopping at in our Yorkshire market town. Been Googling but not found anywhere in Scotland with a weekly market? An indoor permanent market would do too, just looking for somewhere we can buy our veg!

TIA

Stirling has one, just on edge of town www.visitscotland.com/info/food-drink/mckechnies-farm-shop-p1381871
We also get the fish van etc calling round. There's also a farmers market monthly, though that is not everyday fruit and veg.

I bet loads of places have a market.

Ooh thank you! I hadn't even considered a farm shop being able to fulfil that role in our lives but that one sounds great!

Veg box delivery an option in Lothians - I imagine other areas too

Elllicam · 18/08/2019 22:10

There’s a farm shop in the Clyde valley just past Rosebank. There’s a few veg box deliveries too.

Perhaps you could live in a borders town and move between markets. Given the various towns each hosting a monthly market, you could attend weekly. Both Melrose and Kelso are lovely.

There’s a bimonthly farmers market in Glasgow’s west end at Mansfield Park it’s very good

Doubletrouble99 · 18/08/2019 22:24

Farm shops are what to look for + many towns have a monthly farmer's market so you may be able to go to one every week if you position your new home correctly!

JingsMahBucket · 19/08/2019 06:54

@Crabbitstick what’s the name of the veg box delivery? I’m looking to replace the Abel & Cole deliveries I used to get in London.

Sexnotgender · 19/08/2019 07:05

You get monthly rather than weekly markets in Fife.

Also some great farm shops. Pillars of Hercules is awesome. They do a nice lunch too.

Where in Scotland are you considering?

BikeRunSki · 19/08/2019 07:09

This might help

museumum · 19/08/2019 07:11

We get our veg delivered by www.eastcoastorganics.co.uk/

Crabbitstick · 19/08/2019 08:01

Also east coast organics!

Stressedout10 · 19/08/2019 08:10

Cowdenbeath have a weekly market every Wednesday

Stressedout10 · 19/08/2019 08:10

Ps cowdenbeath is in fife

plantsplantsplants · 19/08/2019 09:07

Thanks everyone; this is so helpful! I genuinely hadn't considered that veg boxes could be a great option too.

@Sexnotgender we've not narrowed it down much - been going to Scotland for every holiday for years, and have loved the east coast round Lossiemouth/Findhorn way, all the sea loch parts of the west coast, and loved the isle of Cumbrae and Skye/Kyle of Lochalsh areas too. I know that's not very helpful! We were thinking of using 'places with a good market' as a way of making a shortlist of places to explore on subsequent holidays.

Are you moving to retire or work?
There’s a big difference in employment market and how commutable areas are.

Toohotandsticky · 19/08/2019 10:07

Have you considered St Andrews or elsewhere in the East Neuk? The Balgove Farm Shop is very good, plus there is a decent market on the first Saturday of every month wih similar events on alternate weekends in Dundee and Crail (just 20 minutes away in either direction. The annual Crail Food Festival showcases local produce and producers too.

plantsplantsplants · 19/08/2019 10:12

Thanks @Crabbitstick, DH works for himself online, and I do a bit of everything so we're very lucky to be able to move anywhere with regards to employment.

Ooh thanks @Toohotandsticky, will look up that farm shop now!
