DH sudden chest problem ...

DH has been playing football this afternoon, and has come home coughing, sounding full of phlegm, saying his upper chest feels heavy and restrictive. He feels a tickle or blockage at the back of his throat. Sounds like a chest infection but he's had no other symptoms and its just come on very suddenly after exercising. This wouldn't be an A and E situation would it? He says his heart feels okay and no breathing problems. He is a bit overweight and unfit atm. GP tomorrow hopefully. WWYD?

Sorry, no idea, but bumping this for you.

Hhhmm, I think i’d be calling 111. I’m no medic but it sounds like it needs checking out. I’d be worried about a blood clot or cardiac problem.

I would be concerned about Pulmonary embolism. A & E is where I would go.

Yes it would be an a and e situation oh had cold symptoms and it was actually a heart attack - none of the tv drama chest clutching etc. Please get it checked

Sorry, sounds like a virus. No mechanism for a PE. Agreed heart attacks are rarely Hollywood style but taking into account the physical exercise it sounds like a strain. Unless he’s struggling to breathe I would at least give it 24 hrs then perhaps GP.

I have had a heart attack and unstable angina and now have a lot of heart patient friends!

Colleague pulled chest muscles, collapsed at work with chest pains ambulance job, so it could be something like this. I would phone 111 though.
