Best bottle suggestions for a newborn?

I'm hoping to mix feed once baby arrives although obviously that depends entirely on baby.

I'm trying to be mega organised due to the timing of babies due date but all the information on bottles and teats and sizes and shapes is sending me down a google rabbit hole. Instead of wasting any more time working out the differences I thought I'd come and ask the experts here if anyone had any suggestions for what bottles to buy which would best support mixed feeding?

Thanks in advance. Grin

This thread is a little old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for the best baby bottle for combination feeding, we’ve recently updated our best baby bottles page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their babies. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

'No one really mentions bottle feeding when you attend classes etc let alone what types of bottles to use'

No they don't. They just bang on about breast feeding! Breast feeding doesn't work or is best for all! Get yourself a TT perfect prep too - life saver!

It's too hard to say. I bought Mam before I had my baby and he definitely won't take them now! But I waited to introduce them at around 14 weeks.

I read some advice on choosing a teat that looks most like your nipple, which makes sense... It worked for us!
Dr Sears has some good advice on his website about introducing a bottle.

Started with TT and moved to MAM as TT used to give DS horrible wind and MAM is designed as an anti colic bottle.

We have used TT for both of our DC and the only issue we have had is that they need to work incredibly hard to get the milk out of the number 1 teat. That is easily solved by moving up to the size 2.

If you're hoping to mix feed then I would recommend you look up paced feeding. To do paced feeding ideally you need small bottles with a narrow neck whereas most popualr types have a wide neck. Wide necked bottles tend to need more tilting up to get the milk to the teat whereas for paced feeding you want to hold the bottle mostly flat. Honestly the best bottles we used were the tiny little premade ones they do on hospital wards, I managed to find some teats designed to fit them and then used some little expressing pots as bottles after that.

I think MAM bottles are quite good for paced feeding due to the shape of the teats, but we didn't have a bottle warmer so tended to warm bottles in a jug of warm water, and we found water would get stuck in the base and dribble everywhere when you were trying to feed, which was annoying. Also if you were trying to count mls taken, they are no good for newborns because you can't see the amounts under about 50ml. But I liked the way you could microwave sterilise one at a time and they came apart to clean.

Don't listen to any marketing rubbish about bottles being "boob shaped" or better for breastfed babies or any of that crap, none of it is proven, the best bottle is the one that works for you.

Mam bottles - also the lid is has the mls on the side so you can measure what’s left - if over 50 ml you just measure the rest and add it up

I have a six week old who is bottle fed. Avoid tommee tippee. We have used Nuk and he gets on really well. They are soft and gentle in his mouth and he doesn’t get as bad wind as he did. He even has a nuk dummy as he like the shape of the teat.

My 2 have had tommee tippee bottles with no problems, always got on fine with them.
